Tried it in the shower! My feet are literally the crypt keeper. I have never had such dry thick nasty feet in my life but I had a major surgery and my skin has changed for the worst. As someone who walks a lot, runs and wears barefoot shoes, calluses are inevitable. I visit a chiropodist every few weeks for professional hard skin removal, but this file is great to use in between times. Unlike other glass foot files this one has a nice comfortable handle making it very easy to hold and manoeuvre. It also has just one grade of surface, not a coarse and finer one found on others, so saves time. As for use, hard callused skin just sloughs off quickly. When the file gets clogged I tap the surface of it on a towel to remove the skin. Pro tip - after using the file apply some CCS foot cream containing urea to the areas filed and pop some socks on. New, healthy feet!
