How long can the leaves remain in the tank?

I leave mine in until they deteriorate. My shrimp eats it in the shrimp tank. In my Betta tank, my snails eat it. The more it breaks down the more beneficial it is to your water. The more tannins you get. You can remove it when it starts deteriorating if you want though.

are this okay for golden snails to eat?

Hello, Yes dear!. Most snails or other small aquatic animals love to eat this organic leaf. It's safe. Because we have brought nature into your aquarium. Thank you so much.

Since most people do water changes, how often do these have to be added?

It doesn't last forever, your fish will eat all the edible parts and leave the vascular tissue. You can remove it then and replace it with a fresh one. This doesn't have to coincide with water changes. Most aquarium species that like these almond leaves come from a brackish water environment, and the antibiotic effects of the tannins in the leaves make it so you don't have to change the water as often, unless you have goldfish.

Do you guys boil the leaves before you ship them out scared for unwanted life on the leaf?

Thank you for the good questions and answers of dear customers. Yes, These leaves have been boiled but you can boil them again if you like. Because we specially select the leaves to go through the meticulous process. By Washing!, Boiling!, and Drying!. And packing the leaves into the sealed zip bags well clean and safe. Convenient to use and keep for a long time. In order to produce the highest grade products for your beloved fish. Thanks a lot.
