I ordered 2 of these heaters, a small 100w and a larger 300w for my tropical tanks. On opening the 100w the red turn dial on the top of the heater was very difficult to move and seemed stuck, however, I placed it in the tank as it was and switched it on. It heated the water quickly but felt far too warm. The stick on the thermometer is hardly visible so I couldn't read the temperature. The heater has a little orange light that displays when it is turned on. I was doing some tidying in the tank and noticed the water had gone cold. The heater light was off. I then checked the wires etc and it had broken. I presumed it had overheated. The other 300w heater control dial worked fine, and heated the water fine but I ended up returning both items as I didn't trust the other one not to go wrong too. I think it's hit and miss if you get a good one but I'm not going to risk the fish for the sake of a bit more money for a better quality heater.
