Does this product contain any silicone?

No, it is petroleum based. A few years back, Fine Woodworking Magazine did a test review on about 12 rest inhibitors. CRC 3-36 came out on top when tested on steel plates. I've been a woodworker for 48 years and use it on all my cast-iron machine tops. Depending on the weather here in California, I get about 3 months out of a light application before having to re-apply it. I apply it with a small of cloth at the end of the day. It seems to fill the micro pores of the iron. I wipe any excess in the morning. It makes my table tops slicker. It has never caused fish eye in any of my finishes. It is also a good lubricant. What is the difference between this product and the technical grade CRC 3-36?

On the lower right side of the can is a number. I have seen 03003, 03005, and 03160 so far, so the 3-36 actually comes in different products. The technical specifies can be used on almost anything so one product can be used on metals, plastics and wire insulation as well as transformers etc. It costs more but has superior penetration for better protection. On Amazon there is the suggested other possible choices. Pull up each of these on the CRC products and go down to the technical description to compare. I have been quite happy with the CRC 3-36 that I have used for rust prevention on iron tools.

How does crc 3-36 lubricant differ from crc 6-56?

Crc 6-56 is designed for salt water environments, more specifically, to protect marine engines during storage and to free up rusted parts that have been subjected to galvanic corrosion typically seen in marine engines. Crc 3-36 is the milder, less hardcore, and less expensive rust inhibitor. I use it indoors to keep my machines from developing surface rust. Excellent product.
