.co.uk Review ------------- When it comes to budget horror films none are more infamous than the Evil Dead films and now a fourth entry in the series is appearing exclusively on a home console near you. Picking up from the end (or at least the American version of the ending) of the third film, Army of Darkness, the game sees idiot hero Ash travelling back to the haunted cabin in the woods and running into the deadites, and his own severed hand, yet again. Evil Dead is a survival horror game very much in the style of Resident Evil. It's got the same system of pre-rendered backdrops and spooky camera angles, the same slightly irritating control system and the same mix of simple combat and even simpler puzzles. It's even got the same "magic chest" inventory system. Of course, the real secret of Resident Evil's success is its genuinely y horror atmosphere and here Evil Dead also scores well, especially as the game features the vocal talents of the film's star Bruce Campbell.
