Smith And Nephew Skin-Prep Protective Wipe - Model 420400

My mother has been on dialysis for three years and has a CVC catheter on her chest wall that requires a dressing. The tape that we were using was making a very bad rash. When I was a visiting nurse, we used to use this product for patients with dressings and other medical devices that needed to be taped in place. This always prevented rashes and problems with skin tearing on sensitive skin. I started using this on my mom and the bad rash that she had developed healed within days with no stinging or pain. We’ve been using it for over two years now and no problems at all.

Excellent product to protect skin when removing tape and excels at adhesion of tape or hydrocolloid dressings.

As a type 2 diabetic, I find this barrier film wipe to be effective and easy to use. I protects my skin when I apply my CGM (Dexcom G7) and the over-patch. I do not use a barrier film, I get something that looks like a chemical burn/blister wherever the attaching adhesives touch my unprotected skin. The Dexcom CGMs are supposed to run for 10 days. It only takes a few hours for my unprotected skin to skin to react to the adhesives. This product has helped me immensely. I don’t have to worry about the intense itching and burning I have endured without it, previously. It is also a relief to not have open sores due to the blistering that can occur when I don’t apply a barrier film. I’m sure others have encountered this issue. I have also found this same barrier film as a spray. It helps tremendously. I just spray it liberally on the area to which I want to apply my CGM and over-patches, let it dry, then apply my device and over-patches, rub my finger over the device and patches to be sure the adhesion is strong, then go about my business. Lasts the whole 10 days without fear of irritation, itching, burning, or residual blisters/sores. I am much happier using this product. It is far better than any other product I’ve tried. Have used these in my line of work for ostomies. They work great to help the appliance stick well. I purchased these for personal use. Needed to get something to assist in keeping my husbands Dexcom on. This as well as the overlay stickers work perfect. He is in the pool EVERY day and it does not loosen.

Product works as advertised. It preps the skin for a subsequent adhesive application. It will remove oils and clean the skin in preparation for applying infusion sites, tape etc. However, if you are looking for something to really promote or increase adhesion this is not it. I bought this product instead of skin-tac in the hopes of getting the same performance for nearly half the price. Now I know, that if I want skin-tac performance, I will buy skin-tac.

This brand has been amazing for my son, who has Type 1 diabetes. He’s very active he loves swimming and playing outside and this product has made a huge difference in keeping his Omnipod and Dexcom devices securely in place. We never apply his devices without using Skin prep first. It provides a strong, reliable hold that lasts, even with water and sweat. Another big plus is that it’s gentle on his skin. My son has sensitive skin, and this doesn’t cause any irritation or discomfort, which is extremely important for us. Overall, this has been a game changer for managing his devices. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a dependable and skin-friendly adhesive!

After reading somebody else's review, I took their suggestion and put on two or three coats of the skin prep, and let it dry, before I put on kinesiology tape. I use K Tape for RA. The tape is great, but when I take it off, it can really irritate my shoulders to the point of bleeding. But after three coats of this stuff and letting it dry, the kinesiology tape applied wonderfully, stayed on for 48 hours, and when I carefully took it off, there was only a slight bit of irritation. That's a huge improvement over what my skin used to look like after 48 Hours of K Tape.

I seem to have a moderate allergy to the tape used by Dexcom continuous glucose monitors. When I started wearing them, I developed itchy and painful red skin everywhere the tape had touched. Skin prep was recommended to me, but another brand only partially protected me from the effects of the tape. I was given a sample of Smith and Nephew skin prep wipes and that did the trick. I don’t have any redness or pain/itch for the whole 2 weeks that I wear the CGM.

Burns like hell, but does great job protecting skin, and preventing itching if you're wearing adhesive bandages of any kind for long periods of time. Do not use on irritated skin
