will it damage nylon fabric?

I honestly don't think it will work. The iron needs to be dry with no steam and HOT. I think it will damage nylon.

I have a 2 inch rip on the side of my fabric couch. Can I use this to repair it?

I honestly think it wouldn't work because you need a hard surface under the rip for your hot iron to glide over the fabric. The heat n bond needs to be placed on the inside or wrong side of the fabric. If you could figure out how to iron it on to the wrong side of the ripped couch fabric, it would only bond the frayededges of the fabric side by side. The frayed edges would be seen and you would not have a nice reinforced seam.
