Besides having lw ( long wave band), is there any difference between the radio and the ka 500 which is $30 cheaper??

KA500 has an analog turning system and KA600 has a digital turning system.

Can you please confirm is this the ka600 or the ka600l new model with expanded battery capacity, larger solar cell and various other enhancements?

the solar was worthless. Even here in Florida in August!

If I use rechargeable batteries, will the crank charge them?

The dynamo and solar panel charge the internal battery pack only. The radio has no way of telling what type AA batteries have been inserted - alkaline, zinc carbon, NiMh, NiCd etc. - making it a really bad idea to apply charge current to the AA battery holders. So they don't.

It's made where almost every other piece of consumer electronics in the USA is made, China.
