One of the Few Rust Removers That Lives Up to the Hype
Restoring vehicles is one of my hobbies, so I’ve tried my share of rust removers over the years. Some promise a lot and deliver very little. Evapo-Rust is one of the few products I continue to keep on the shelf because it simply works. It arrived quickly and was packaged well with no leaks or damaged container. I appreciate that it’s a ready-to-use formula, so there’s no mixing or guessing—just pour enough into a container to completely cover the part and let it do the work. The solution is water-based, reusable, and designed to remove rust without harsh acids or damaging unrusted metal. What I especially like is that it reaches places a wire wheel or sandblaster simply can’t. Brackets, hardware, bolts, and smaller automotive parts come out looking dramatically better with very little effort. It’s become a regular part of how I prepare pieces before refinishing or painting. As with any restoration project, the preparation and the finishing steps matter just as much as removing the rust. Once the part is clean and dry, I always follow up with the appropriate coating to keep corrosion from returning. If you’re restoring classic vehicles, maintaining older equipment, or just trying to save original parts instead of replacing them, this is one of those products that’s worth having in the garage. #FoundItOnAmazon #EvapoRust #RustRemoval #AutomotiveRestoration #Jeep #GarageLife #CollectorVehicles #DIY #AmazonFinds #LuxeLife

It works!
This stuff works really well on surface rust. I’ve used it, and reused it, and it does a great job of converting (or removing? Not sure which) rust. It takes a while (I’ve left pieces in it overnight) but it’s well worth it. I bought a small container initially but bought a larger size because it’s so good. It obviously can’t fix severely corroded metal, that’s not what it’s for.

Works great! Much better than vinegar. No scrubbing and won't eat base metal.
This stuff is brilliant for rusty steel, better than white vinegar. I had bolts and bicycle parts that were basically clean, but pretty well rusted. No caked on grease or dirt, a good layer of rust but not caked up thick. I put them in a plastic container of this stuff. It dissolves the rust into the solution, so no wire brushing needed unless the part is covered in gunk. It takes a while. I did the first screw in an ultrasonic cleaner and they were done in an hour. I put the more complicated parts with deep sockets into a container of this and let it soak for a couple of days, they came out beautiful! Depending on the steel it will either come up clean or have a gray/black conversion coating. Great for screws/tools, the conversion coating helps hold oil to prevent future rusting. It won't eat the base metal. Rusty pliers could sit in this for a month, the rust will dissolve but the pliers won't have any pitting except for what the rust did. I wouldn't use it on my antique rifle, because the color might turn, but it's great for general purpose stuff like tools and hardware.

Make sure you wash out gas tanks before using!
Originally I bought a 3.5 gallon bucket of this stuff to de-rust in the inside of my motorcycle tank. The website says to wash any grease/oil and dirt. off of the parts you're going to soak, but after draining the gas from my tank and letting it sit for a day, I forgot to wash the tank out. I filled the tank with Evapo-rust and let it sit for approximately 24 hours and when I checked it it hadn't done anything. I contacted the manufacturer via their website contact form and received a reply that any amount of gasoline would screw up the Ph and cause evapo-rust not to work properly. So that was around $60 down the drain since it apparently ruins the product. It doesn't mention this in the directions I'd read on the website. This time around I soaked it with dish soap 3 times, rinsing it out 3 or 4 times after each soak. I'll update this review once I see how it works this time. **UPDATE** Ok, so I've had my tank soaking for one week and one day and this stuff is doing the job. It's taking awhile, but one of the reasons I decided to go with this stuff was that it only eats the rust and will not affect the metal. I didn't want to have to babysit my tank through the rust removal processes, so being able to forget about it for a couple of days was ideal for me. I think it probably would have worked faster had I drained the product, rinsed the tank, and replaced the product every day. The instructions tell you you may need to rinse your part and resoak to remove a film that might prevent further penetration into the rust. The instructions indicate that heavy rust might need at least an over night soaking, and while I didn't think mine would be considered "heavy" rust, it certainly wasn't light rust. Now that the rust is pretty much gone, there's pretty decent pitting in the metal in there. I wound up buying another gallon locally (total 3 gallons) because I have no way of telling if all the rust is removed aside from what I can see through the filler hole. I would recommend getting enough of this product that will at least mostly fill your tank to minimize how many different positions you have to leave the tank setting. I really want to find something heavily rusted that I can drop into the solution so I can better see the progress. That and it's a bit of a pain draining it out of the tank, rinsing it out thoroughly, and then pouring the product back in. I also filtered the product through a t-shirt each time I drained it out of the tank to remove the little bits of rust that came out. This stuff definitely does a good job and it's safe to use and won't eat anything but the rust. I wasn't concerned about this because I'm getting a dent fixed and getting it repainted, but it doesn't appear to harm the paint at all. I have spilled this stuff a decent amount though this process and aside from making your hands a little sticky, it's easy to work with. If you're in a hurry this might not be the product for you unless your dealing with really light rust, but if you're like me and want something that you can "set and forget" it will work for you. I waited until winter so I wouldn't have to go without riding my bike for the repairs, so this was a perfect solution for me.

Great for older automotive parts
This stuff worked great. We have an old boat that we needed to clean rust out of the engine. we let this sit overnight and it really cleaned the rust and crude out of it, Great for older automotive parts. We even strained the formula and did a second application. Would recommend and buy this again if I had the need.

AWESOME rust remover!
AWESOME rust remover! I just cleaned up my grandpa's very old and rusted tools and now they look great! I barley ever leave a review but this was shockingly good so I had to comment as I was a bit skeptical before I purchased if it would work.

This stuff is amazing
It did a great job getting the rust out of a motorcycle fuel tank. Just had to go back in and clean some varnish I missed before the Evaporust soak. It’s back in the bottle and ready for the next use

Worked Great for Removing Rust from an Old Brake Caliper
I used this today to remove rust from an old, rusty brake caliper, and it worked extremely well. For the best results, I recommend preparing the part first. I brushed the caliper thoroughly with a wire brush to remove loose rust and debris. Then, if you have the time, wash it with water and a very diluted dish soap using a regular brush or an old toothbrush. Rinse it well and let it dry completely. After that, I applied the Evapo-Rust to the caliper with a brush and let it sit for a few minutes. Then I cleaned the part with brake cleaner and let it dry completely. The results were excellent. The old rusty caliper came out looking much cleaner and ready for painting. I’m very happy with how well this product worked for rust removal.
