Steel, sturdy and will last!! It's a dump truck that works! This truck was the 12 " version. It does come in 16 and 20 inches at a heftier price. My only caution would be that it IS steel and could potentially hurt a child if he/she fell into it. The bed is wide and deep supporting a child's most imaginative loads. The wheels move smoothly. The cab doors do not open. The color is true to life. I want to buy more CAT construction equipment to round out the fun. Purchased for a 4 year old who had fun right away! It does not make noise or have lights. It's fun the old fashioned way! No battery needed!
