As someone who prints regularly for both functional parts and hobby models, I’ve gone through several brands of PLA. OVERTURE’s purple filament is one of the better options I’ve used, especially at this price point. Pros: Color & Finish: The purple hue is vibrant without being garish. It has a nice semi-gloss finish that really pops on detailed prints like figurines and display pieces. Winding & Spool: The spool is neatly wound, which matters more than most people realize — no tangles or snags, which means fewer failed prints due to filament jams or inconsistent feeding. Print Performance: Layer adhesion is solid. I printed at 200°C with a 60°C bed and got smooth, clean results with minimal stringing. It handled retraction and bridging well, even on more complex geometries. Compatibility: Works great with my Ender 3 V2 and also performed well on a Prusa MK3S+. I’ve gone through nearly the entire spool without any noticeable inconsistencies or clogging. Cons: Not the strongest PLA: While the surface quality is excellent, this isn’t the toughest PLA I’ve worked with. If you need something more impact-resistant or functional under stress, you might want to look at PLA+ or PETG. Slight odor when printing: Nothing overpowering, but there’s a noticeable sweet-plastic smell during printing. It’s not unpleasant — just something to be aware of if printing in a small space. Final Verdict: For hobbyists, cosplay builders, and general-purpose 3D printing, OVERTURE’s PLA delivers reliable performance and vibrant results. It’s especially good for decorative prints or detailed models. Not quite industrial-grade, but it’s consistent, beginner-friendly, and well-priced. I’ll definitely be buying more colors from this brand.

I bought a roll of this since it was on sale, and decided to try it for a two color project. The calibration cube and a couple of other tests appeared to be ok, but when I started on heavier prints for the project I started to have major under-extrusion issues in random places. I took several spot measurements of the diameter of the filament, and it was all 1.70-1.80 mm. So I knew that wasn't the issue. Yet, as you can see in the picture of the tube, there are several layers with minimal filament present, where there should have been a 4mm thick wall. The tube mechanically failed about 1/3 of the way up where those major underextrusions occurred. Examining the failure points, there were random bits of filament, then a solid line, then random bits again, etc. I was able to separate these layers with minimal force. Then I remembered that I had two calibration cubes printed with different brands of filament. Exact same g-code, so they should be really close in weight, right? Well, as you can see in the pictures, that was *not* the case. The Hatchbox PLA (black) weighed in at 5.47 grams, while the Overture PLA (red) weight 3.92 grams. Nearly 30% lighter!!! Sadly, this is not a good value if prints fail due to structural problems from underextrusion due to the low density of this filament.

Feeds well, color is a little dull, but it works. I had to print something for a tabletop game, and this worked fine.

Filament was brittle right out of the package. I threw the spool away after 8 hours in a dryer and two failed prints. They failed due to the filament breaking as it came off the spool.
