I am loving this soil testing kit! One of my new Hydrangeas was not doing so well, so I used a fertilizer spike to improve the acidity of the potting soil I have it in. After a couple of weeks, I wanted to check if the spike was doing its job, and found out this test is very easy to use. You need distilled water, which I had already. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. The reading of the testing strip is easy; you just compare it with the color chart that comes on the bottle. I believe the results are accurate also because it gave me a PH of 4.0 (maybe 4.5) and a Nitrogen reading of 320. I was also impressed by the speed with which the small square pads changed color when I submerged the testing strip in the water - that, to me, shows the test is sensitive enough. Overall, I’m very happy I ordered this testing kit.

Did I receive a bad batch? I tested multiple garden patches and container gardens and they all had extremely acidic results. I was really confused because my plants symptoms show indications of the soil being alkaline. Finally after retesting three times and following the steps instructions obsessively, I tried the strip on the distilled water. Same color. Acid. Now this kind of water can be a bit contaminated by co2 but I’m pretty sure it should be relatively close to neutral ph. I’m pretty upset, I need to buy amendments or fertilizer to help my plants and I would have spent good money based on these false results and ultimately killed my plants dead. I was really excited based on the good reviews and the fact that it tested the nitrogen as well. I think I will spring for a ph meter and hope that does better!

I found this and decided to give it a try to see if we can solve the problem. Long story short, we tested the soil and found that the nitrogen levels were way beyond what was normal. After that it was a matter of replacing the soil and replanting everything after the levels were within normal range. This testing kit really helped to figure out an issue that otherwise would have been unsolved for quite some time or cost much more to diagnose. Good value.
