Great Product
I've tried a lot of alarm clocks and sleep gadgets over the years, and the Hatch is the first one that's genuinely changed my mornings. Waking up to the gradual sunrise instead of a blaring alarm has made a huge difference—I feel much less groggy and way less tempted to hit snooze. The sound quality is surprisingly good, with plenty of options from white noise to rain and nature sounds. I also love how easy it is to customize routines in the app, so I can wind down at night with calming sounds and dim lighting, then wake up naturally with increasing light and gentle audio. The design is sleek and minimal, so it looks great on a nightstand without feeling like another piece of tech. Setup was quick, and it's been reliable every single day. I honestly didn't expect an alarm clock to have this much of an impact on my sleep and morning routine, but it absolutely has. It's one of those products that you don't realize you needed until you start using it. Worth every penny, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking to improve their sleep quality or make mornings a little easier.

Better Sleeping Habits
I originally bought the Hatch Restore 3 because I wanted a gentler way to wake up, but the biggest difference has actually been how much easier it is to wind down at night. The dimming light and bedtime routine have helped me put my phone away earlier, and waking up to the sunrise alarm feels so much more natural than my old phone alarm. I've been trying to develop a better sleep schedule and habits, and having this alarm clock has definitely helped! It looks great on my nightstand, the sound quality is surprisingly good, and it's become something I use every single day without even thinking about it. It's definitely not the cheapest alarm clock, but if you're trying to build a healthier sleep routine, I'd absolutely recommend it.

Takes the pain out of waking up!
I am NOT a morning person, so I'm always looking for way to make waking up an easier process. (The sound of iPhone alarms I've used years ago still send my heart racing.) The Hatch Restore 3 has been a wonderful solution with a gentle alarm that takes the pain out of waking up. It starts with a soothing sunrise light that slowly brightens in the lead-up to your wake time, so your body is already naturally easing into the morning before the alarm even kicks in. And the alarm itself softly fades in, calming tones without any sudden blare. Most days, the light alone has been enough to wake me, and the alarm is just a gentle final push into the waking day. Right now I'm really enjoying the "Blue Light Morning" alarm, but there are so many other options I'm excited to work through. I've also added a second light-only alarm using the "Villa" light that I use as a mood lamp while I'm getting ready. It creates such a nice atmosphere in the morning and is a small thing that's made the whole routine feel a little more enjoyable. On the wind-down side, I'm still working my way through all the "Unwind" options and have been loving the Sound Baths, Soundscapes, and Music selections. There's such a great variety that I can just pick whatever sounds right for my mood that night without overthinking it. My bedroom feels like a spa! I've been falling asleep to the water and rain sounds lately. There are actually several different options for the type and intensity of rain, which is a nice touch. I'm also looking forward to trying out the meditations, which I haven't gotten to yet. I like leaving the clock on permanently, so I'm not tempted to look at my phone if I wake up in the middle of the night, but you can also set it to display the time only when you tap it, if you get clock anxiety at night. Setting up the Restore and the app was pretty straightforward even without reading the directions. I'm still fine-tuning my favorite routines, but even the very first options I tried were great. Only a few days in and I'm already looking forward to both my morning and bedtime routines, which honestly says it all.

Two AuDHD adults, two Restore 3s, zero regrets
If you've ever laid in bed staring at the ceiling while a smart speaker cut out mid-rainstorm, or fought a $25 Amazon sound machine with mediocre sound quality that you had to manually start and stop every single night, this review is for you. My wife and I both have AuDHD, and sound at night isn't a preference, it's the difference between a night of sleep and a night of our brains refusing to shut up. Over the years we've run the gauntlet: Alexa with scheduled rain routines, a Google Home doing the same thing, and eventually a cheap $20–$30 sound machine off Amazon when we got tired of the smart speakers dropping audio every time the internet hiccuped. Each one had a fatal flaw. The smart speakers couldn't be trusted to actually play through the night. The cheap sound machine was reliable but had to be manually started and stopped every single night, and the sound quality was, being generous, about on par with a Google Home speaker. Then I bought a Hatch Restore 3 in late 2024, and the story changed. I used mine solo for about a year while my wife stuck with the cheap Amazon unit. This was her choice. She didn't think that the Hatch would provide much difference in sleep quality. Then one night she slept on my side of the bed. The next morning, she all but demanded I get her one of her own. The sound quality had put her into a depth of sleep she hadn't hit in years. We now have two Restore 3s on the nightstands, both in Cocoa. What actually makes it work: Sound: We both use Green Noise as our sleep sound, and it does something specific for an AuDHD brain that rain and white noise never quite did. It shuts down the overthinking center and lulls you down. The speaker is genuinely high quality, not a rebadged cheap driver, and because the core sounds are stored on the device itself, a flaky internet connection doesn't cut playback the way it did with our Google Homes. It just plays. The rise routine: This is where the Hatch earns its price tag. My current setup is a ten-minute sunrise on the Portland Lighthouse light preset, with Fisherman's Wharf (seagulls, water) as the wake audio. It ramps gently instead of detonating like an iPhone alarm. I rotate the light and sound combinations based on mood, which keeps it from going stale. Hold-to-dismiss + the light: This is the feature that changed my wife's mornings. Her pattern used to be: hear phone alarm, roll over, slap dismiss, fall back asleep with zero memory of having done it. With the Hatch, she gets two sensory streams at once, ten minutes of building light plus gentle sound, and by the time she reaches to dismiss, she actually has to hold the button. That extra second of required physical engagement means she's cognitively awake when she turns it off, not reflexively swatting at it. Look and feel: The Cocoa finish is genuinely nice, soft-touch plastic, understated, doesn't scream "gadget" on the nightstand. A few honest gripes: The alarm and schedule setup lives entirely in the app. The device has physical buttons for volume, brightness, pause/advance, and a quick alarm disable, but building or editing a routine requires your phone. If you're shopping for a simple, self-contained clock, this is the wrong product. For anyone already comfortable with app-managed devices, it's a non-issue, but it's worth calling out. My bigger wish is device linking. With two units in the same room, each alarm is managed independently. When one of us dismisses ours, the other keeps going. It's manageable, but I'd pay for a "paired bedroom" mode tomorrow. (Possible I'm missing it in settings, but I've looked.) We also had the six-month Hatch+ trial and used it for a while. The sleep stories and guided meditations are well produced, and I'd recommend them to anyone without an established wind-down routine. For us, we already have our own ritual, a separate galaxy light goes on as part of the lead-in, and we do our own meditations, so Hatch+ didn't stick. The good news is you don't need it. The built-in sounds, Green Noise, Portland Lighthouse, Fisherman's Wharf, the basics, are exactly what we use and they're included. That's the review. When a device quietly replaces three previous solutions, when your partner sleeps on it once and demands one of her own, when it becomes the thing you trust to actually run the routine every night without babysitting, you stop thinking about it. That's the highest compliment I can give a product at this price point. Photos/Video description: 1. The Hatch glow up I didn’t know I needed
The Hatch glow-up I didn’t know I needed The packaging alone is so good. It feels thoughtful, elevated, and like you’re opening something really special, not just another device. You can tell right away they care about every detail, which honestly matches how their products perform. We’ve loved Hatch products for years. We first got the Hatch Rest Sound Machine for our baby back in 2020, and it quickly became one of those things we recommend to everyone. It just works, and it works so well. So when I got the Hatch Restore for myself, I already trusted the brand, but I didn’t realize how much I personally would love it. The biggest difference for me has been mornings. Waking up to the gradual light instead of a harsh alarm has made my mornings feel so much calmer and honestly just easier. I feel way less jolted awake and more like I’m naturally waking up, which sets the tone for the whole day. At night, I love how it helps me actually wind down instead of just going straight from chaos to trying to sleep. The routines make it really simple to stay consistent, and the sound options are so good. I can switch things up depending on what I need, whether that’s white noise or something more calming. It’s also just really simple to use and looks nice on my nightstand, which I didn’t think I’d care about but I do. Being able to control everything from my phone is another little thing that makes a big difference. It’s one of those products that you don’t realize how much it’s helping until you’ve been using it for a bit and then you don’t want to go without it. If you already love Hatch for your kids, this feels like the version for you!!

It’s worth it
I can only describe my hatch experience so far as ethereal. The first wake up with the hatch was amazing, it was like it was slowly lifting me out of my sleep without scarily jolting me awake and leaving me in a bad mood. The sunrise feature is amazing. There’s an alarm sound for everyone, my personal favorite is a mellow beachy song, but if you want you can wake up to a love island inspired sound. The app was super easy to figure out as well. As someone who often wakes up before the sun and has a pretty strict schedule the hatch is amazing. I will say, it works better if you consistently wake up at a certain time as you can set schedules for different days of the week. Not only is the hatch amazing to wake up with, it also helps me fall asleep. The unwind cue is extremely helpful in keeping me on schedule and I love the stories and meditative music that you can listen to before bed. You can also do a lot with the lights, I often use the bedside light feature, and I love the immersive, colorful lights that come with some of the music choices. I could literally wake up to a pink sunrise in my room if I wanted to. Anyways, I didn’t think it was going to be worth it, but it truly is amazing.

Better after tweaking
Edit 12/6/2025: I did some brainstorming for how to get around the problems I had, and tried it out for a few days. In the process I ended up finding some solutions that I felt worked very well and were worth sharing. If I set up the cue and just leave it running, it will keep going until I start the unwind routine. That works well enough for a bedtime reminder that doesn't go away. My biggest issue was not being to set the time for things in the "undwind" part, since I use that to be aware of how long I've been awake (IF I've been awake too long). I've gotten around this by setting up several of the fixed time unwind steps together, so they'll play one after another and the combined time is close to what I'm looking for. Based on my experiments, this actually works quite well. One of the limitations of the process I was using before (setting audible to run for a set amount of time on my phone) was that you can't really set up anything to play in a list--you'd have to fiddle with your phone again to fix it if you needed anything extra before/after the story. With this, I can set a 5 or 10 minute meditation, and then a 30 ish minute sleep story for after I've relaxed more. I still think there should be more flexibility in how you can set things up--setting the amount of time the alarm goes off, or the snooze time, or being able to use sounds from different categories for other steps would be useful. It is also expensive and susbscription based for the full experience. And I also highly recommend setting it up well in advance of bedtime with a lot of time to play around and test sounds on the device, because you don't want to set something up and have it wake you up on accident because of the volume you left it at. But the sounds are very high quality, and I've found I like the set up after I've tweaked it to suit my needs better. With that in mind, I'm going to bump my review up a star. A suggestion for the developers--you might be able to reduce friction like this if you included some examples (maybe a video?) of how people might use the alarm in somewhat different ways. I like to do everything else I need before bed while the cue is playing, then come back, press the button, and listen to the meditation while I'm in bed. Then it proceeds to a short story, and then some extra music that goes for a set amount of time, so I know how long I've been awake if I hear it end. I'm guessing that maybe some people listen to some of their sounds/meditations outside of bed, and they might have only one sound per step or they could have a bunch. Some people may have it right next to their bedside, while others (like me) might have it away from their bed so that it encourages them to get up in the morning. It didn't really occur to me when I first got this that I could use it in the way that I am now. Seeing some examples of different ways people used it might've prevented some of my initial frustration. Original: I wanted to like this. I got this because I thought it would assist with my attempt to no longer use my phone as an alarm and just use a sunrise alarm. But for an alarm that's so expensive AND requires a subscription to get full use out of, it's remarkably feature poor. It has different steps for bedtime and wake up--cue to unwind, unwind, and sleep, and wake up. I liked the idea of this, but how they have it structured is very restrictive and isn't what I was looking for. You can't choose whichever audio you want for each step in their process. They have specific audio for each of their steps, and you can't mix them which is frustrating because if you could you might actually be able to make some good flexible bedtime routines. You're stuck with whatever they think belongs in each category. Also I think their library all of the time, which might be good in some ways, but won't that mean that the things I like will be going away as well? Good bedtimes are all about consistency so why such a focus on changing everything? You can't control how long anything other than the sleep step plays for. If you want your "unwind" step to only play for 5 minutes, or to play for 45 minutes, you'd need to get up and manually set it or fiddle with your phone while it's playing and you were trying to sleep. Unless there's a feature that's hidden somewhere? I don't think so, though. The steps generally say "this is a fixed duration". I use sleep stories to both help relax and let me know how long it's taken me to fall asleep, so being unable to control it at all is a problem. You can't schedule anything other than the alarm and your "cue", which I don't think you even get unless you're a plus subscriber. If you wanted this to double as a lamp with a scheduled on and off time to assist with going to bed, you can't. You can't even schedule your unwind to start at a certain time. You must walk up to it and press a button or start it from the app (not good for trying to get off of phone). I don't think you can even adjust how long your alarm will ring, snooze time, whether the snooze stops the light or the sound or both. The app also often has long response times and takes a long time to save changes. Overall: It's a sunrise alarm. The light is good, and some of the sounds offered are interesting. It's very expensive and requires a subscription for full functionality, when there are other sunrise alarms out there for half of the price (or even less) that are more flexible. I feel very disappointed in it and I'm thinking about returning it. If you are from Hatch and see that I'm wrong about the features, please let me know. I wanted to like it. Not being able to set the duration of steps, not being able to schedule times of different steps, not being able to select what sounds I'd like for each step (why can't I start some of the sleep sounds inside the unwind step? having them start out of the blue after unwind will end up waking me up), and not being able to adjust basic things like snooze and alarm duration time are kind of deal breakers for me. This is functionality that exists in much cheaper models. I get the feeling that a lot of the positive reviews are from people who've never used a smart sunrise alarm before.

Read this if you’re on the fence (and to understand the bad reviews)
I was so on the fence about purchasing this. I don’t think they advertise enough about the bedtime routines and how great they are via app. There’s a 3 part (optional 4th part) nighttime/daytime routine that you customize with the app and each part has a sound, volume and light option. It starts with a cue to wind down set at a daily time which I love. It plays soft music and a soft warm light to remind me it’s time to get ready for bed. You can do a next part which is it adds a meditation/wind down sound after you push the button but I turn this off. The third part is white noise (also optional) and I have mine set on “bedroom fan” on volume 70. I love that it saves the volume and is the same every night and same with the different parts of the routine. I can have my wind down low volume and white noise high or whatever you want. For the alarm clock it does a sunrise that you can program to start slowly turning on up to an hour before your alarm goes up with sound. The alarm volume also starts out soft and slowly gets louder. To switch to parts of your routine, turn your normal alarm on/off, or adjust volume you can all do it with manual buttons on the clock. The speaker quality is also insanely excellent- another justifier of the price point. The white noise loops perfectly. Many bad reviews are secondary to an app subscription fee. I don’t pay for it but it’s 5 bucks a month. You get tons of functionality without it just fine. My favorite white noise sound, alarm, and wind down are all part of what’s included without the subscription. That being said, this is a $170 premium alarm clock. It is a bit comical that those who decided to make the financial decision of a $170 alarm clock cannot afford a $5 a month subscription. Point being it’s a luxury to have the alarm clock and it’s a luxury to have the subscription. Work within your budget. The alarm on your phone is free. Alarm clocks at Walmart are 5 bucks. If someone wanted the subscription for the extra content I honestly think it would be well worth $5 a month. I almost let reviews complaining about the subscription deter me from purchasing this. It has totally changed my sleep. I sleep better, I wind down better, I wake up better. I love it. The app is great and yes— you will have to use the app for intense customization. It’s the tradeoff you get for not having a screen on the clock. It’s so nice to disconnect. I hardly ever ever open the app. I have my routine set up and it just runs. And if you’re trying to decide between this and a Loftie… HATCH ALL THE WAY! I had a Loftie first and returned it.

Such a game changer—especially in the winter!
We’ve been using the Hatch Restore 3 for a few months now, and I can confidently say it’s made a huge difference in how I wake up each morning. There’s a bit of a learning curve at first, just because there are so many lighting and sound options to explore! It’s really customizable and easy to tailor to your own routines and preferences. Where it’s really been a lifesaver is during the winter months here in Canada. Waking up in the pitch black is brutal, but the gentle sunrise feature has made those mornings so much more bearable. It feels way more natural and less jarring than a regular alarm. Bonus: even our dog loves it! As soon as the wind-down music and soft “northern lights” colours come on at night, he trots over and settles in. Highly recommend this clock for anyone looking to improve their sleep routine—especially if you live in a place with long, dark winters.

Misleading and disappointing
Very disappointing. The hardware is good but the app is unusable. There is a lot of potential in this product but they will only realise it when they throw out the current app and rebuild it with ease of use and flexibility in mind. Honestly this industry is begging for a competitor to come in and show us how this can be done well. Unfortunately Hatch is not that (yet? 🤞). I'd love to return my Hatch 3 and wait for that competitor, maybe they never come but this $200 disappointment is not bringing me any joy.
