DMT A4EE Whetstone Knife Sharpener and Diamond Sharpening Stone for Use with Aligner, 4 Inches, Extra Extra Fine

Without this stone, I can still get a pretty good edge with just the green X-fine but THIS stone defintely takes my edges to the next level - razor sharp and very polished. At the new price of $14, don't pass up on this. I paid $18 and they dropped the price right afterwards ... grrr :-) Maybe someday I'll also get setup for stropping with some diamond paste or 3m abrasive lapping pads but at the moment I don't feel that these are necessary for me since the DMT xxf does such a great job. I can literally shave with any of my edges honed with this stone. I'll usually complete a full v profile with this stone and then add a microbevel using ONLY this stone at the very end, with either 1 or 2 steps up on the aligner (depending on the blade). Works like a charm! My only complaint is that shipping took a while for this item, even though it was listed as in stock.

Excellent stone when used in conjunction with the aligner kit. I've essentially phased out using my water stones in favor of the DMT system. These particular stones have a small break in period and will arrive feeling a little more aggressive than a typical waterstone of equal grit/micron size. It's not a problem, and after a couple of uses it will become superior in function compared to a water stone. No mud, always flat, fast cutting and it can be used dry. On carbon steel knives, with the right bevel angle you can very easily attain a 3 micron non-toothy edge that is literally hair whittling sharp. I currently use this particular DMT stone as a replacement for my honing steel/rod. Its certainly less convenient than a steel, but the tradeoff of being able to produce a much longer lasting edge than you can with a steel rod is worth the effort.

This is a good stone for putting a polish on your blade's cutting edge. This is the final step in sharpening a blade that you want to put a razor's edge on. This stone, by itself, won't do much on a dull blade. You must use coarser stones first. I purchased this in addition to the DMT Deluxe Aligner. I also purchased an extra coarse stone, so I have a total of five stones to sharpen with. (This stone is probably the least important of the stones.) There is a discrepancy on the packaging with regards to the grit of this stone. The packaging says this is a 2200 mesh stone. This is inconsistent with DMT's literature and web site which state that white is 2200 mesh, and tan is 8000 mesh. So I emailed DMT. Here is what they said: "The web sites are correct. The tan is 8000 mesh. On the packaging the color was changed from white (ceramic) to tan, but the mesh was not changed by oversight. Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. Having used this sharpening tool for many years I have not found anything to complain about. This is a quality product from DMT. I use it to get a keen edge on my wood carving knives and to touch up a chisel or two. Two knives that I use when camping , both with heavy blades and with a unique curvature to the blade, this narrow tool makes it a breeze to touch up the edge when needed. When used properly , this tool will last for many years. I would recommend to friends and will purchase again, when needed.

I bought this as a field stone for my hunting knives because of its size, weight and grit. Excellent for touching up an already sharp knife. Best when used with a little spit or water. Keeps a razors edge sharp. I don't recomend this for general sharpening as it is way too fine. You first need to have a very sharp knife. This whetstone is excellent! Great product.

I got it for tuning ski edges, but it's probably too fine for that. Fine enough for even polishing. I got the blue (coarse) one, and it works great. still can use a fine or extra fine one to smooth the surface after using the coarse one. The extra coarse one is great for tuning kitchen knifes.

This extra extra fine diamond stone hones an edge to a polished finish quickly and easily. Great quality and value!

My first one produces an edge that is nearly mirror like . I figured I would get a second one before they didn't make them any more . Many of my other brands of diamond sharpening stones (for my Edge Pro Sharpener) are begining to disapear from the market . When I got this second Extra Extra Fine (8,000) I felt the surface with my fingers because I read here about them having more coarse ?grains? or areas on them . The one I received feels really smooth like my old one . but after using it on a knife that already had close to mirror sharpening bevels on it this new EEF scratched the bevels up pretty good . The edge is still quite sharp but it certainly did not improve the edge . I plan to use it a lot on knives that need some serious sharpeinng and see if it doesn't ""break in "". The price is right compared to some of the other diamond stones that are $70 to $90 dollars , though they are two inches longer . There is a lot to like about how these DMT stones sharpen so I'm not giving up . It is just that I recall the old one being "ready to go" out of the packaging .

I use this product for putting a final edge before stropping onto my kitchen knives. Believe me they are not razor sharp. As DMT advise the diamond stone takes a short while to bed in but once it does, it works just as it should. Very pleased!

Keep this in my edc kit for keeping all my knives razor sharp. I use it like a strop. Plus I glued a peice of leather on the back of it and put 3 micron diamond solution on it. Works well
