Excellent caliper for the money!!!
Best caliper I've ever bought for this price and then some, hands down! You panty-waste talkers need to stop talking trash and RTFM. If you have a defective unit (and it happens) contact the seller or manufacturer and work it out. If you just can't read or fathom reading instructions, then send it back and keep using your thumbs, toes, arms and feet. I grew up in a shop environment and am very familiar with these types of tools. This caliper hands down is as accurate and precise as advertised. Mine in particular is highly accurate as I used my precision blocks (which are perfect btw) and could NOT find a single flaw or off measurement. As GadgetClass and David Andrews amongst others have noted, I also tested "numerous" items top to bottom in the jaw and the accuracy is stunningly accurate! At this price you can't buy another brand caliper this accurate for the money anywhere I know of. I had a small box of 6" calipers (some more expensive than this one) that I just tossed out because this iGaging caliper is that good! I will certainly be buying more iGaging brand items if this is any indication of the quality and craftsmanship they offer. Unless you work for NASA and the like, this caliper will accurately measure anything you need it too. And I'd bet NASA has a good number of projects this will suit just perfectly fine as well. Mine goes back to "0" "EVERY" TIME! I don't have to slam it or repeatedly go back and forth to get it too zero out. The locking thumb screw is a plus and holds the precise measurement in place very well. The fit and finish are top shelf! Depth gauge is just as accurate along with the perfectly machined depth gauge base. If you can read and understand what you have here and how to use it, you won't be disappointed. Highly recommended for home and business shops. The perfect all-around caliper for high quality general precision work. As Mikey said, "Try it! You'll like it!" ;-) Move over Mitutoyo!!! There's a new kid on the block, ...and he's giving you some stiff competition for the money!

A standout product in its own right, an absolute steal in this price range
I purchased this caliper and the compatible USB interface at the same time (see "iGaging SPC USB Cable for OriginCal 100-700 Series" for my very positive comments). The caliper itself arrives in a sturdy reusable storage device, with a battery installed & a spare battery in the case. The fit & finish of the caliper is above average, with no loose or poorly-fitted parts. Test measurements were accurate & exactly repeatable. If you've used this type of instrument before, you know that it's best when they don't do anything unique or creative. This caliper operates smoothly, the buttons all feel exactly alike, the display is clear & uniform. The model I purchased also included a base attachment that allows stable depth measurements. The instructions were easy to understand and completely explain the various features (purists may complain about the quality of the translation). A NIST-traceable calibration test certificate was also included, unusual for this price range. Besides the obvious quality, a key reason I selected this product is because all the reviews I've read state that the "average battery life" estimates are not hype. The problem with many similar products is that even when turned "off", they simply blank the display but are still consuming power, and may kill those tiny, expensive button cells in a week. The OriginCal series uses the much more common CR2032 coin cells, and other reviewers have reported shelf life of a year or more (the instructions list 2 years with typical usage). Of course actual battery life will depend most on how much you actually use the caliper. I did a ton of pre-purchase research because I was convinced I'd need to spend USD300-500 to get what I wanted. I even contacted the manufacturer by phone & they quickly transferred me to a person who could answer technical questions. So far, this product is everything I was hoping for & more.

Great calipers. Get the absolute origin feature
I have been very been very happy with mine. I have 3 iGaging calipers that I keep in different places. The last model I got will show the measurement in fractions/decimal inches or decimal mm which I do like. If I were you I would get the version that does all 3. Definitely get the model that has absolute origin - all of mine do so I've never tried a caliper that doesn't but I would think that would be very annoying to have to zero it out each time. My buddy runs a high end calibration business (high end like he measures calibration of tools for a nuclear lab and a semiconductor company) and I brought them over to his calibration room and they were extremely accurate. He was impressed I was super happy. He had a Fowler caliper and Mitutoyo and as I recall the Mitutoyo bested the iGaging accuracy by some completely insignificant (for me and 99.99% of people) amount on one measure and the iGaging was exactly the same on several others. I bought the iGaging thinking this would be my cheap set that I would mostly use around the shop and that I would get a Mitutoyo as my precision set but after seeing the results I decided I had better things to spend $450 on so I never did buy a more expensive caliper. When you get down to that small of difference you are better to invest in some kind of way to take dust particles off the jaws (seriously - my friend did one measure and it was off a little more than it had been in another measure so he cleaned the jaws and bingo - it hit dead on). I wish they had an auto off feature. None of mine do. I can't tell if they have added this feature on the ones they are selling now. If they don't keep an extra battery at all times because you'll no doubt leave it on at some point and come back to a dead battery.

Finally! An accurate digital set of calipers at a good price.
What a search it has been, phew! I finally found a DIGITAL set of calipers at a reasonable price. The number of FAKE Mitutoyo calipers flooding Amazon and Ebay and FB Marketplace is dizzying and alarming. I found genuine Mitutoyos for $107 + shipping $15 but these were much less. So, why buy M when my need to measure is not scientific? I use these for DIY, jewelry, and fixing watches, sewing machines when I have to measure replacement parts. I love that I can switch from mm to decimal inches to fraction inches easily. Zero out at origin. There is also a stand you can set this upright, to lower the depth gauge and measure below the base. Very cool feature - check the sliding rod at the back. That is for depth gauge measuring. Comes in a nice box with new battery. Very very happy with this. My Nerdy neighbor has one too, and he recommended it. Buy with confidence.

Don't expect Mitutoyo finish, but you'll be happy anyway.
These are NOT as good as Mitutoyos, but they ARE very good. What's a little frustrating is that they have comparable attention to detail - cal certificates, excellent repeatability, rock-solid absolute measurement and perfect return to zero every time - all things I like about Mitutoyos vs any other caliper. The thing is, despite being 95% of the way there, they aren't Mitutoyo stand-ins - my unit came with the main jaws ground ever so slightly off center, so the tips were at different distances from the scale. I'm used to this in cheap calipers so I just applied the same fix - sharpen the jaws just a touch with a diamond knife sharpener. But for having perfect everything-else, it's a bummer that the one flaw remains. That said, for half the price, it's hard to justify spending any more: Mitutoyos have: -gold standard fit and finish -near if not perfect reliability and accuracy -come in a great protective case These have: -very good fit and finish -near if not perfect reliability and accuracy -come in a not-as-good protective case The differences probably aren't worth the $50 unless you're a purist. I will add one more thing about the fractional model: Unfortunately, for roughly the same price, you can decide between 8" or 6" with fractional readout - there is no 8" with fractions. The fractional readout is cool, but there's also a lookup table on the back side to go from decimal to nearest fraction (albeit, nearest 64th and not 128th). If I were to buy again, I'd probably get the 8" instead

Great Caliper for the price!
This is way nicer than my cheap chinesium "performance tools" digital electronic caliper from O'Reilly's autoparts store. Those calipers seems to be generic with whomever company name is branded on it. The iGaging by far has a better fit and finish and glides super smoothly vs the other caliper, which stutters as it slides. The package contents were much better too. Performance Tool re-branded had just instructions and batteries. And the tool would bounce around in the case as it is loosely fit in there. The absolute origin w/fractiosn is held down nicely, with plenty of cushion to keep it from being knocked around. It came well bagged, with oil and paper wrapped around it to keep it from rusting. You're also greeted with a certificate of authenticity, and signed paperwork by whomever the factory worker was for calibration! And its *hand* signed. Very accurate, no wavering. Numbers are big and clear, and its easy to dial into thousandth of a mm (i couldnt do that with thte other tool as it was too stiff, so sometimes i would overshoot it). My only one minor gripe is that the lower lip of the caliper that is attached to the digital scale is somewhat magnetized. I dunno if this is a issue with digital calipers as my other one is magnetized too. I'll eventually demagnetize it but dunno if it will come back cuz i demagnetized my other caliper only to have it get magnetized again. Overall I am very happy with this device. Sadly i would have gotten a mitutoyo, but the amount of knockoffs everywhere kind of pushed me to pick this up. Glad i did. I own a few other iGaging products and they've all been awesome.

Using for wood working - accurate/repeatable/nice quality - maybe slightly too high precision for my needs (1/128 fractions)
Calibration seems to be dead on, repeatable measurements to 1/128 accuracy (may be higher, I was using the fractional settings). Measurements were repeatable at all positions on the jaws (in other words if I used the tip of the jaws to measure, I got the same result when using the middle and maximum depths of the jaw opening - shows that the opening in the jaw is very parallel, so good quality). Overall, seems very sturdy and quality. Heavier than I thought and readings are displayed very fast. Zero origin feature is nice I wanted something for wood working, and this might be a little too precise for my needs. Probably only need 1/64th readings, because that is about as accurate as I'd ever need to get on cutting wood. If iGauging is reading this, would be a nice feature if you could select what fraction accuracy you would like to use (like have it automatically round 61/128 to something easier use - like have 64th inch accuracy (31/64) or even 32nd accuracy (15/32). I realize this caliper is more for a machinist than a wood worker, but that would be a nice touch and this thing would be perfect! I was considering sending it back because of the math that I have to do in my head (brain hurts) but after using it a few times, I love the accuracy, quality, and repeatability. I might get a cheaper mechanical dial fractional caliper to supplement this for work only needing lower accuracy.

Beyond impressed with longevity, price point and performance.
So I’ve seen some bad reviews on here touching on customer service and returns and unfortunately I’m unable to give my input on this since I still have mine going strong for almost 6 years. I’m not a diy guy either the primary purpose I’ve bought and used this is for repair and rebuilding heavy equipment components on million dollar machines. If this tell you something about the accuracy of this product it is spot on. It would great for measuring in the thousandths of an inch which is what I require have not really checked the accuracy in the ten-thousandths of an inch. However it is no mitutoyo or starrett, so if you are a machinist definitely want to have the best most precise tools in the business for measuring in those high thousandths measurements. I’d really hate to say anything bad about this product, but I must clarify that you should not buy it for the depth mic attachment since it is a pain to zero every time you use it. If you plan on buying it keep that in mind.

Buen vernier.

So glad I purchased this caliper
So glad I purchased this caliper. Very accurate and the error rate when adjusting or moving the slide rarely happens as compared to my cheap older calipers that happen all the time and that are now in the recycling bin. Its a keeper. Next purchase from IGaging is a micrometer.
