No. Just make sure the surface to be painted is clean.

How durable is this paint? Could it be used on aluminum atv rims?

If you prep the wheels good the paint holds up great

Can this be sprated without removing the caliber?

Sure, but the results will show it IF you look closely. You would need to clean off the rust & brake dust with acid-based wheel cleaner and a stiff brush, then rinse well and dry. Mask off everything else. The good part is that nobody *normal* would notice the difference! (LOL) e.g. You wouldn't need to paint the inboard side...
