Safe Effective Deterrent for Swallows
We have barn swallows that like to build nests under our eaves and around our porch support posts. For the most part we enjoy having them there to help keep down the insect population. They are aerial insectivores, catching their prey while flying. This includes a variety of insects such as flies, beetles, wasps, wild bees, winged ants. They also consume moths, damselflies, grasshoppers, and other insects, as well as some spiders and snails. However, they also like to attempt to expand their neighborhood every spring by adding new nests. And that is where we draw the line. We have found that these strips of plastic with clear monofilament line and an adhesive surface to attach them have proven to be very effective at limiting their expansion to unwanted areas of our porch. They effectively prevent them from landing on the parts of the porch we want to keep clear by confusing them when their wings hit the clear lines hanging down about 10 inches from the surface. In order to build their mud and grass nests, they need to be able to land to build the nest. I can highly recommend them as a natural, non-harmful, effective way to control access to areas you want to protect from them building upon. The strips are very durable and the stickiness of the adhesive they use is very good, having survived the heat and cold of central Texas for over 3 years since we started using them. This makes them a very good value for the money in my opinion.

These actually work!
This product is amazing! It has helped tremendously and keeping the swallows from building their nests where we do not want them! What a great idea I would definitely buy it again, and actually have bought them a couple of times.

Save your money
I bought 10 of these hoping to deter barn swallows from nesting in our barn above the horses and their water buckets. They kept the swallows away for 2 days. Now theyโve all nested right under these and have even incorporated the strings into their nests. Itโs a good idea in theory but did not work for us. We are taking them down and installing bird netting.

Worth every single penny.
Bottom line - this product works! We have had barn swallows for a few years now and I had tried all the tricks and hacks I could find (fake snake, aerosol spray, swatting at them, balloons). I was desperate and annoyed, so I bought these strips. I was very disappointed when I opened the package - it seems to be just a strip of heavy duty packing tape and fishing line, but I had been battling three years of barn swallows and refused to allow them to win. Upon further inspection though, the โstrip of heavy duty packing tapeโ is more like a very sticky piece of acrylic. Itโs very thick and sturdy not exactly like packing tape. My husband stuck these on the ceiling of our front stoop (see picture). Very simple. Attached as easily as expected. No concern that the strips will detach any time soon. Instantly, the birds attempted to swoop in to โtheir spotโ in the corner of our porch, but the STRIPS WORKED!!! They turned and went another direction and they havenโt been back since!!! Amazing!!! Yes, simple technology here, but itโs worth it to get rid of the pesty and relentless birds!!! The price is worth every single penny. The pieces of clear string are about 10-14 inches - they vary in length.

Great product!!
Works GREAT!!! What I love about the product the most is itโs clear and doesnโt make my porch look ugly, you hardly notice they are there.

Seems to work
I bought tons of products to deter swallows and this one seems to be the only one that is working. I bought two packs and hung them above window and door ledges. The swallows will not land on the ledges with these there. There are still landing and rebuilding nests everywhere else where this product was not installed but where we hung these they are not landing. So the product (the strings) really are deterring them. But it only works where you have it of course. Very simple easy install, just peel off and stick up, very thick double sided tape that looks like itโll hold awhile. They are very short in width so we had to use 4 per window or door. Would be nice if they were wider or had more in a pack. Would also be helpful if they made different lengths, these are very short. So it does work where you have them but nowhere else.

They really work, and they don't cost much
PROS: They just work, period. This year I had three pairs of swallows all competing for the corners of my front porch. (I welcome swallows anywhere around the house or barn, EXCEPT on the few square feet that is my front porch.) When I hung these suckers up, they immediately confused and frustrated the birds. After about 48 hours, they finally gave up and moved on, and they haven't been back. The swallow shields aren't at all unsightly; in fact, they're barely noticeable. CONS: When you're hanging them, removing the tape from the adhesive strips is an annoying ordeal. There's no tab to lift or anything like that, so you end up scraping around with your fingernail and could damage the adhesive strip if you're not careful. Also, I'd like it if the lines of twine were just a wee bit longer. (UPDATE: After about a week, the lines loosened up and extended about 50% further in length, giving me all the spot coverage I needed! Criticism withdrawn.) Still, those are only minor complaints, especially considering the very affordable price. At only 7 bucks per two-strip pack, this is a no-brainer. If you have a problem with swallows, I can't imagine a better product for the price.

Works so far
You really can't see it unless you look really hard . Which is good as it is above my front door. So far so good no more mud nests!!! It's been up a couple of weeks

Works
Amazingly difficult to see even although just above my front door, so pleased with that. Swallows don't like it and have disappeared ๐

They work!
My neighbours and I share a breezeway, and we had barn swallows relentlessly trying to build their nests in it. Boy, these birds are dirty - leaving droppings and mud everywhere. They can also be aggressive, dive-bombing people near their nests. We tried everything and finally these worked! We managed to enjoy the last couple months of nice weather in peace. We stuck them to the ceiling near the brick wall. The birds stay away now. If you have barn swallow problems, don't think twice, just get these.

Do not work
They do not work for bats. We bought several and put them side by side. The bats do not care and crawl up under/behind the strings. And they keep falling down as well so I would recommend screwing them in if you are going to try them. Personally found them to be a waste of money.

It works!!!
We had issues with barn swallows, and had such trouble keeping them away. This took care of the problem instantly. It's been about a month and they aren't back.
