These brushes are great for thick coarse hair.

This brush works good for the side of my hair smoothing my hair down for me.

It's definitely a hard brush. My husband uses it to treat scalp conditions and he loves it. We've tried a few other brands but this one has a wide surface and secure grip, suits him better. But be aware, the percentage of boar hair is low.

Very firm bristles. Hoping in time they soften up (the nylon bristles are stiff). Works as presented and is helping with my seborrheic dermatitis (removing scaling) for less scalp irritation and even oil distribution. My hair length is short but I find the brush useful at days end to remove the additional hair product used for styling. Great price! UPDATE 12/6/14: Yep, still have this brush and it's seen me from every hairstyle imaginable. Currently, I'm wearing it pixie short with a floppy top section, but this brush is able to reach my scalp with no problems. This is my "go to" brush when I want to relax and just brush my hair to destress after a long day. If you're wondering, it hasn't deteriorated, degraded, or diminished in function since day one.

When I bought this brush, the Diane Men's Reinforced Boar Bristle #8158, I also bought Diane Men's #8118 100% Boar Brush. And let me tell you the bristles on this brush are really hard, to the point of scratching my scalp... but, I believe that IF you have coarse, thick hair, this brush should be perfect. The Men's #8118 Club Brush 100% Boar Bristles is, for me, an excellent brush, as I have fine hair, and this brush is absolutely perfect and does a great job. There are lots of bristles, and the brush is soft to the scalp. I'm going to buy 2 more of the Diane #8118 100% Boar Sterilized brushes. Excellent Product and well made.

For the price, it's well worth it - if your hair is the right type. On my slightly wavy, somewhat thick hair, it works quite well. It detangles and smooths my hair without feeling like I am breaking every end I have. That said, if I had really big tangles, I'd probably use a big comb before using this brush first, because it's not really a detangling brush - it's best used (on my hair anyway) as a finishing brush or for light tangles. I do find myself reaching for it because it doesn't yank through my hair the way my other brushes do. Overall, it's a great value, and I like how shiny and smooth my hair is after I use it. It seems like it's fairly well made, and feels nice in my hand.

Serves the purpose. The bristles are very firm, if you have a sensitive scalp then you should avoid. It works brilliantly to take the dandruff off of my hair.
