Metal gear solid is mostly know for the story. The complex story that will take so much detail to fully explain. So when I found out mgs v will be going open world I was worried. Sure there are open world games that have a good story but no where near mgs standards. I only watched a few trailers as I wanted to be completely surprised and trust me you will. For the review I won't be spoiling anything but simply giving you an insight on what to expect. Graphics- not the most important thing in a game but I sure does help, the mgs series has been known for pushing graphic to the limitations on the console it's on and it is ever so present with mgs v. Everything is top notch from the blood spatters to the facials. One thing that is pretty mediocre are the explosions. A lot of games just don't make it look amazing ( just cause 3 looks amazing so far ) but it's still great. The stand out by far is the lighting. This game probably has the best lighting effects I've seen in any game I've played. Gameplay- it's sucks. If you hear someone say the gameplay sucks just disregard what they say cause it's spectacular. Probably the most important reason to buy a game and it doesn't fail. Everything feels right. D horse is the best horseback gameplay in any game. But where the gameplay stands out is the variety of ways to complete the mission or whatever your doing. From killing no one to killing everyone it's just a blast. The cardboard box is back and it's better than ever with some new tweaks to it that mgs players will find super satisfying. Story- here's what I was afraid of I was afraid the story would become less as they focus on the gameplay and I'm kinda right but it's still there. Kojima is known for the long cutscenes which are still present but there are less now. The expansion on the story more revolves around how much you want to know as you'll collect cassette tapes explaining more. But the story is still there and from what I've played it's sort of different form past games. This time around it's more dark. There are still silly moments and weird Kojima moments but it's the darkest mgs game. It helps to know the backstory of mgs befor playing but the games story does a good job welcoming new comers, overall the story is still here and amazing so far. Overall- I'm going to get hate from some people that don't understand a review is an opinion but metal gear would phantom pain is the game of the year so far. It will take a lot to knock this game down and I don't think anything can. It's dark, mature, fun, and simply satisfying. It meets expectation then surpasses them. After receiving this game early I've played 20 so hours and every second I played this was worth it. The intro is the best I've witnessed in any game...ever! Kojima ends the mgs saga on a high note. If you love mgs you won't be disappointed if you are new and debating on playing for the first time...get it. Chances are if you're reading this review you're wondering wether to get it or not and I honestly think it's worth the 60. And with that 60 you're getting an amazing story, extremely fun gameplay, and a top notch quality game. Metal gear solid is back and better than ever. By the way ignore the 1 star reviews...yes there's a microtransaction method for the FOB but ok don't need it. Repeat YOU DONT NEED TO BUY IT TO ENJOY THE GAME ITS FOR PEOPLE WHO DONT HAVE THE TIME. If you notice all the 1 stars aren't even an Amazon verified purchase so who knows if they've even played the game. Don't trust the one stars.

This game is absolutely amazing! Definitely lives up to the hype. First off, if you like "Open World/Sandbox" games like Fallout 3/NV/4, ElderScrolls, Far Cry or Just Cause and GTA, but also love the freedom to develop/customize your own realistic weapons sort of like CoD than this is for you and if you'd like more details to why read on :'). -> OVERALL- MGSV is very amazing. I haven't even beaten the game, as a matter of fact I'm only 16% into the game but I've been playing for about 20-30 hours already. This game definitely hightlights a new fun in gaming. -> GAMEPLAY - The game-play and mechanics are really good. For those new to MGS; you can't play in First-Person-View the whole game; however every time you aim you can toggle it to Iron-Sights/Scopes which IMO is helpful. Third-Person-View definitely helps you with angles viewing the world. And for those who think that would be easy mode over First-Person-View it's very untrue. I've scouted over 30 places and am very familiar how to approach and look for enemies however every now and then while I'm analyzing sometimes an enemy will spot me! The more you progress the more you're enemies progress as well. Just saying~! Also I think it's pretty neat for Weapon Load-Outs how you can equip two Primaries, (one AR/SMG and one RPG/GL/Sniper Rifle) one Secondary (usually a pistol) and tons of equip. Vehicle Handling is a little weird but maybe that's just me used to GTA V lol. -> CHARACTER SELECTION - GONNA PUT THIS SECOND FOR YOU FEMALE GAMERS OUT THERE AND GUYS BECAUSE I LIKED THIS! You can actually play as a female character! Once you unlock a female character (most of the time this would be "Side-Op: Prisoner Extract 02") if you place her in your Combat Unit division; you can play as her by choosing her from the list of people in your Combat Unit! I found this to be fun because I love switching up my character every now and awhile. Now; Snake appears in main cutscenes however your character will appear in any he isn't voiced/required. The female characters are voiced for interrogations, sprinting, etc! And body models fit pretty well. The only thing is Sniper Rifles appearing a bit off the body (literally only like a tiny tiny little off your back) but really I don't notice it but bothers some people. I guess if you play with the cam facing your char side ways running into anything infront of you then yeah; it'll annoy you. -> THE STORYLINE - MGSV's story really puts you into it. The intro is a bit long but definitley not boring. Also; you don't spend the state you're body is in no longer than the intro mission incase that turns you away because for a bit that kind of threw me off but it's fun. The entire story is really good and well written and not rushed so far. I definitely love the deployment system and approach of missions. -> OPEN-WORLD/SIDE-MISSIONS - Okay. Straight up, these will lure you away from the story INSTANTLY. The GMP (currency) rewards are good and the other rewards are enticing from Side Missions (known as Side-Ops). Enemy occupied areas while wondering you can't help but scout out every enemy and figure out ways to take over it or infiltrate it. There's many ways of transportation. You start out with a horse; however completing certain Developments you'll be able to loot vehicles; and certain challenges will award you vehicles. -> WEAPON CUSTOMIZATION - Yes this deserves it's own spot because it's really good. Especially for older gen consoles which I play on! Weapon customization is nearly endless. I don't want to give away too much of the game but in order to unlock this you'll have to complete up to Story Mission 14 (maybe sooner) and do certain Side-Ops. I only mention this because I kept seeing it on my screen yet the option was never even available; so I assumed it was for Metal Gear Solid Online however I came across it while googling for schematics. Weapon Customization is really good. Once you develop enough weapons; it's nearly endless. You can customize from barrels to stocks, optics (iron sights, scopes, RDS etc), supressors (you can get better durability ones), the camo/color of the weapon, lasers, flash lights, grips, etc! The more weapons you develop you unlock parts of those weapons to attach to any weapon in that category! So the game really encourages you to develop aside the fact you'll want/need better weapons. -> EQUIPMENT - Man haha this is really cool too. You can unlock upgrades and new equipment. Definitley a variety. You can bring along 8 equipment AND a whole other 8 inventory for explosives, and even with 16 slots total you STILL couldn't equip all the equipment! At first I was like "holy damn I can bring all this equip? What the hell nothing will stand in my way" but then I find times I could really use something I just couldn't bring xD. <----- Pros-----> : -> Open-World Gameplay (duh that's number one in my opinion they did a great job haha) -> Amazing Weapon Customization and Mission Loadout/Deployment Screen -> Transportation Around World -> Enemy AI is VERY GOOD/Re-actionable -> Great Story-Line -> Great Side-Missions that don't just feel like a grind for GMP (matter of fact, story missions are re-playable but not side missions, go figure haha) -> Character Selection/Optimization -> Rewards from Online Challenges -> Overall the game <----- Cons -----> : I only have three cons; even though one is a Pro because it is benefitable if you can access it. -> You have to be connected online in order to accept rewards from Single-Player Challenges you complete. Normally Rewards suck in other games; but these are really REALLY valuable. Ranging from A-S+ possibly S++ Recruits which is EXTREMELY useful especially beginning (even end-game), to GMP from 30,000 to 500,000 possibly more, and vehicles. So yeah, that kinda bums me out since Wi-fi here is horrible since roomates share and most of the time I can't connect unless 12am-6am but yeah if you can then ignore this! -> Once you connect online; you're GMP (currency) is stored online. That means if you are to ever lose connection while playing, you'll have no GMP until you reconnect (or at-least access to your GMP in your Online Inventory). And not just online, but to MGSV Servers as well. That kinda turns me off too due to even more latency; but again, more of a personal con. -> Female Sprinting. Man; some female characters sound like they're having an asthma attack until you stop sprinting. I'm still in the pursuit of finding a good stat, good ability/skill female character. But yeah; I got used to it the noise but I definitely see why some people complain on forums and stuff. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is an extremely good game, WAY longer than Ground Zero if you played that, and worth the money. If Konami didn't get rid of Kojima I'd buy it again just to support him and give it to a friend or something. 5* and 10/10 even with the few cons due to personal. I'd recommend it to ANYBODY regardless of they're preference of linear gameplay like mission to mission like Call of Duty/Battlefield, or open-world/sandbox gameplay like Fallout or GTA. This game really connects the two and did a very amazing job. Especially for a first try in the series. Very. Good. Game. Thank-you for reading :')! Any questions I'd be glad to answer/verify.
