These boots are remarkably light, probably because the uppers are a mix of manmade material and suede leather at the stress points. The soles are rubber and EVA. The non-leather portion of the uppers look like they might be breathable, although the boots are water resistant and the insides are thickly padded so I suspect the non-suede portions are to reduce weight and cost rather than for breathability. I ordered the boots in my usual US shoe size and they fit quite well, they are comfortably padded and so far no blisters. This is my first hiking type boot with side zippers, so we’ll see how that works out. So far it’s made the boots easy to put on with a minimum of lace loosening and I was able to unzip the boots and slip them off without unlacing them at all. There’s a folding membrane between the boot tongue and sides that looks a little funky, like it might rub my ankles during a long hike, but so far it hasn’t been any issue. It may just be that all boot tongues connect that way and I just haven’t seen it because I’ve never unlaced a hiking boot before. I took the boots for a multi-mile walk on a snowy trail. My feet stayed warm and dry. When I got home, however, some snow had adhered to the toes. I knocked off the snow, but the suede boot toes stayed visibly damp. I checked on the boots several hours later, but the suede was still damp. By the next morning the boots had dried, but the suede was stained where the boots had been damp the night before. I had suspected it before, but now I knew, these boots would not be my go-to boots for a multi-day snow weather hike. So, the boots are easy to put on and take off, they are comfortable and warm, and they did not need any breaking in. After a multi-mile hike soon after I got the boots, I experience no blisters or even any sore or hot spots. All that said, I would not recommend the boots for rainy day hiking, or splashing through standing water, or melting snow. I’d say they’d be OK for cold snow day hikes, but for multi-day snow hikes they might not dry fully overnight.
