Only used it for engine oil. I don’t think it’s suitable for petrol.

Will this be OK to bleed brakes (in addition to oil) or will it be overkill?

I would love to answer your question, but, this is not the the item I purchased. My Mityvac will hold around 8litres, this one is 1.2, it will work on the same principle, making a vacuum, as you say ,it could be a little over kill to use this solely for bleeding brakes as it sucks out oil very quickly, so maybe it would empty your brake reservoir in no time.

anyone know the outside diameter of the main pipe ? has the main pipe got a rubber adapter instead of just the pipe

Main pipe is 10mm with no rubber adapter, it goes into a quick release connector on the tool. The other pipes are 6mm & 7mm with rubber adapters to fit the main pipe.
