St Kilda: The Last and Outmost Isle

This book exceeded my expectations with the amazing photographs and the quality of the commentary. All aspects of the Islands were covered with clear descriptions of the history, development and decline of the community. The work of the National Trust for Scotland in preserving the Island's heritage is explained in detail as is the archaeology and geography of this amazing archipelago.

Bought one for me (I'd love to go there), and one for friends, one of whom knows St Kilda well having done summer volunteer work with NTS for several years. He was thoroughly pleased with it and said it's the best book on St Kilda he'd ever seen (and they've had several, including a couple sent by me previously). I think I agree (I have several others too).

An excellent book with so much information. The photography is second t0none even the old photos. I have seen some original photos from the Island as my Stepfathers Parents came from st Kilda. His mother was one of the 3 girls that married 3 Sailors when they were repatriated to the mainland after the first war finished 1918. Good to read some of the Military facts as an ex Military man myself, Great read.

I have been searching for years for the ultimate guide to St Kilda, and this is it! A wide-ranging and scholarly study, lavishly illustrated with many old photos - and as a bonus, a superb pull-out map at the back.

Fabulous book wonderful thank you such a magical place now we have such beautiful memories to treasure only sorry we didn’t see a bit more but had such little time I would highly recommend

Excellent book. Both superbly researched for the academics and yet clearly communicated in a way that makes it fascinating for those of us reading for general interest. Also a vast number of excellent photos. All in all amazing good value, especially if you buy from Books etc rather than direct from Amazon.

I have a couple of books on St Kilda but this is definately the best.Lots of superb photographs, well organised into different sections and a very comprehensive book ond with a more balanced view of this remarkable group of islands than some books portray.
