Can I use this on a standard 5 gallon bucket from Lowes or do I have to buy a Gamma bucket.

I just put one of these on a $5 Tractor Supply bucket.  It works fine.  Is it air tight or leak water?  I am not sure.  I just wanted to replace the lid that I bought with the bucket that was a pain to remove.  I am planning on buying another one for a Lowes bucket.  I keep deer corn in them.  Would I use a regular bucket for dog food or cat food?  No.  I would buy a food grade bucket.

Question 2

What is the oring sizing? Will a #378 sized ring work? I need to replace a few, they appear to have expanded/grown larger and are falling off.

I went 276 and 379.  378 will prob work just as well.  Most of the nitryl you find has a hardness of 70a which is not ideal for this.  A flat sheet of silicone cut out in a circle works the best that I have found for cost.   The "innertubes" that come with the lids just don't work well.  A better solution would be to use a washer in the design.  Anyone who uses a food jar knows flat washers seal well.  The only way to really get these to work, is to crank and i mean crank them with the tool provided or similar.  Not practical really, if  you are looking for airtight or waterproof seal.  This is a good application for dog food or the like, when you need to get into it everyday, but then you can just take off the gasket, because it does not matter, to make it easier to open.  Remember almost ALL food grade plastic is porous.  Depends on your application and your milage will vary.  BUT---DO NO EXPECT THIS TO BE WATERPROOF OR AIRTIGHT !  I would love to see the manufacture who makes that statement to be handed one of these put the lid on by hand and be thrown off a ship 3 miles out to sea with nothing else to cling to but the bucket and false advertising.
