Since I have never ever tried a product by Clarins, I was excited to order this Hydra-Essentiel Restoring Cream Mask with Double Hyaluronic Acid. It arrives in a box with no security seal, but when I took out the tube, I was reassured to see that the entire top is sealed in cellophane. You are meant to apply this thickly on the face, leave it for 10 minutes, and then remove the excess with a cotton ball and toner. It disperses as a white cream and smells absolutely lovely, it has a light floral scent which smells soft and clean, but not overly sweet. The cream feels very rich and soothing going on. It is thick but still has very good absorption, and after 10 minutes there was not alot left to wipe off, due to my dry and thirsty skin drinking it all up. Immediately afterward the redness from my rosacea was almost entirely faded, and my face looked more filled out and smoother. I don't know if I would call this a mask, but whatever we want to call it, the results are delightful. According to the product page this plumping - hydration will last 24 hours. I can't say that it lasted quite that long, but it did seem to keep my skin super hydrated longer than other hyaluronic acid masks that I have used. And looking through the ingredients I see why it is being referred to as having double hyaluronic acid. This is because it contains both hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid and sodium acetylated hyaluronate. These two forms of HA can penetrate the skin at different depths, so it makes sense to me that it's effects could last longer. In addition to that, this mask also contains betaine, ceramide NP, tocopherol, and a few other beneficial, skin friendly ingredients. Even though I love how this mask smells, since I have sensitive skin my preference is always no added fragrance. In addition to that, although this formulation is mostly very clean, it does contain an ethoxylated ingredient, namely ceteareth-12. In order to make this ingredient they use ethylene oxide, which is a known carcinogen that can then contaminate the final product. Also, there is a toxic by-product produced known as 1,4-dioxane, another carcinogenic chemical that can contaminate the final product. I have deducted one star for the presence of this potentially harmful ingredient. All in all, this is a very nice plumping mask that I enjoy using. Currently this mask is selling for $42.39. That price seems high for a mask that is left on for only 10 minutes. Since I see no reason to not wear it longer, I have been wearing it overnight to get all possible benefit, and in using it that way I think the price is more reasonable.

Super easy to apply and use, you can see an immediate hydration effect to your skin. It feels great and it gives you a plum look, can be used as a quick 10 min mask or use it overnight. Smells great and not too overwhelming, it didn't cause any irritation or redness to my skin.

This is like a moisturizing sheet face mask, but without the sheet. I like that this is a less wasteful option that also takes up less space in my medicine cabinet than individually packaged masks. I've applied various amounts, and just kind of tailor it to how my skin is feeling. I get very dry skin in the winter time and used thicker coats to really hydrate my skin when it was feeling like it needed more moisture. Now that we are in spring headed into summer, I like to do thinner coats as maintenance. I prefer to use it before bed so my skin feels hydrated already before I apply my face cream.

This mask smells amazing! My face actually feels noticebaly softer afterwards.

I am not someone who does mask regularly because sometimes I feel like they strip my skin of the natural oils. This mask is a bit different. It reminds me of a cream that needs to be gently wiped off. It leaves my skin feeling hydrated. Its easy to use and think it’s another great product from Clarins.
