Much more accurate than most moisture meters I have tried.
I have been growing most of our veggies and herbs indoors and have had a number of different moisture meters in that time. This moisture meter is the most accurate ones that I have had, not only for soil moisture but for but also for PH. The instructions tell you how to get the different readings that the meter provides, but it doesn't really tell you what how to use them. So, some of that you need to figure out by knowing the needs of your plants. This meter is very versatile in the information that it supplies, but you do need to translate this information for the needs of your plants. What I like about this moisture meter is:1) It is very readable with the lighted display that shows well even under plants when the lighting isn't the best. The lighting on the display does turn off after a short time, but it comes back on by turning the meter off and then on.2) The display tilts so it is readable from any angle.3) The display for moisture shows as a percentage of moisture in the soil and also as dry, normal, and wet. Of course, dry for any plant would mean it needs to be watered and wet means no water is needed. Normal can be different for each plant species. This is where the percentage of moisture comes in handy. For example, plants such as veggies like cucumbers and some herbs should be kept on the moist side. If the moisture percentage gets lower than 50% -60%, they probably need to be watered. Plants with thicker leaves such as sage and succulents can go to 30%-40% before they need to be watered. When you get to know the moisture level required by the plants you grow, the percentage of moisture in the soil is very helpful.4) The pH part of the meter is very helpful as pH is very important for some plants. Most plants do well with a variance of pH, but some, such as citrus trees require the pH to be lower or more acidic. Others may do better with a higher pH that is more alkaline. If the soil pH is not correct for the plants you grow, they can't absorb the nutrients you provide in fertilizers. So, they may show symptoms of nutrient deficiencies even if the nutrients are in the soil.5) From what I can see now, this meter looks to be very durable and well made.6) This meter does use 4 AAA batteries that are not included. At this point, I have not had it long enough to comment on battery life. This meter also measures lighting in lumens, since lumens measures on the brightness of the light. A bright light can sometimes have less usable light than a dimmer one. I have another meter that measures the PAR of lighting which is the amount of usable light for plants. In addition, this meter measures the temperature of the soil. Since I grow my plants indoors, this reading is not very useful for me, but it may be useful in a different environment or outdoors.I believe this moisture meter is a good value for the money considering the savings in plants that may be over or under watered and those that are struggling because of the pH being too high or too low. I would also definitely recommend this meter for the accuracy in moisture and pH readings.I hope this review was helpful for you.

The Best Among the Bunch.
This is the only digital soil meter on the market. All others utilize a magnetically operated needle, that swings in front of 3-to-5 scales. As a result, the user gets rough estimates instead of actual numbers..It is also one of the few that requires battery power to operate. An electric charge is emitted into the soil and is received in the probe. A circuit board measures the tiny changes and reports the results in digital form. Many competing devices use no batteries. I wonder how their diagnoses work without electricity?.I took the meter to task on the first day. The initially readings were off. AMBIEN LIGHT measured 0, although the meter was under a grow lamp. SOIL MOISTURE measured 95% - very wet, although the dirt was only moist..After a "break in period" of one day, I tested again on the second. The features proved accurate. On the TEMPERATURE feature, I measured room air. The temperature was 1F higher than my oven thermometer and room thermostat. . . . Excellent!.To test the PH feature. I wet a face towel with water. It achieved a 7.1 reading - neutral. Water was neutral. . . . . Then, I wet a spot on the fabric with vinegar. The reading was 6.0 - slightly acid. Although vinegar was 4% acetic acid in distilled water, I expected a strongly acid reading. So, the PH feature was off by a half notch..The MOISTURE feature worked to perfection. It measured the potted soil at 20% - dry. Examining the dirt, the moisture held the dirt in clumps, but it was relatively dry..The AMBIEN LIGHT feature was good. Three grow lamps shined on my 10 juniper seedlings in pots. Each light source had a 100 watt grow bulb, with a 1700 lux rating. Putting the meter under one, it measured 2640 lux. With the added indirect light from the two other lamps, the reading seemed correct..In the past month, I purchased three other competing soil meters and returned all. They tested grossly inaccurate, or some of their features were inoperative..On this product, the features worked to perfection, except for PH - half correct. A second problem was missing the ability to measure FERTILITY. A third problem was the small text on the screen for TEMPERATURE and MOISTURE readings. They were very small. Other than these three shortcomings, I ranked it the best among the many soil meters available on Amazon...-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------..UPDATE: After two months of usage, the unit became non-functional. First, it no longer showed moisture. Second, one-fourth of the LCD screen went blank..I contacted the vendor for warranty repairs/replacement. Within an hour, it responded with a request for a video of the unit in action. In compliance, the unit was turned ON. The regular screen appeared, indicating NO PROBLEMS..

Well worth the money
I'm very happy with my order, the device is quick and accurate. I like the probe I can check the ph in the root zone easily. Quality build easy to read, definitely a good product. Check ph ,lux, and saturation with ease.

review by a chemist
I like the unit except for the temperature measurement accuracy. the YAMRON consistently measured soil temp around 8 degree warmer than my digital meat probe and my soil temperature round dial probe. The pH measurement was spot on compared to my lab pH meter. The other measurements (light &moisture) were good by my quesstiment.

Failed the pH experiment and back it went
This 4-in-1 soil probe claims to measure moisture, temperature, pH, and light. After testing it alongside an analog probe, Iโd say it performs well in two areas, is questionable in one, and underwhelming in another. What it does well:Moisture โ Accurate and easy to read. My analog probe uses a 10-point scale, while this one gives a percentage. After recent rain, this probe still showed high moisture in my tomato buckets, which matched the heavy feel of the soil.Temperature โ Very helpful. I've been monitoring heat in different colored buckets (thanks to some advice from ChatGPT), and this has helped me take steps to manage soil temperature, especially during flowering and fruit set.Backlit Display โ A nice bonus. I usually check plants in the evening, and the digital readout is much easier to see than trying to guess readings on an analog dial.Whatโs uncertain:pH โ Still evaluating. It read distilled water as neutral, which is promising, but it doesnโt match my analog probe. Iโve ordered a third method to verify accuracy. If it turns out to be reliable, it would explain a lot about some of my plants' struggles. What falls short:Light Measurement โ Disappointing. The meter maxes out at 9999 lux, which isnโt enough to measure full sun accurately (often 60,000+ lux). It gave the same reading for full sun and shaded areas under 40% shade cloth, so it's not sensitive or accurate enough to guide grow light or shading decisions. Also worth noting: lux measures light visible to the human eyeโnot necessarily what plants need.Bottom line:This is a good option if you're looking for a combined moisture and temperature probe, and possibly pH once verified. But for measuring lightโespecially for gardening or grow lightsโthis isnโt the tool. Ask ChatGPT for better light meter suggestions.UPDATE: I returned it. I conducted a calibration experiment with distilled water, alkaline water, and acidic water (1/2 cup H20 to 1 tbsp of distilled vinegar. I started with the distilled water (which should read 7 - neutral) and the calibration was off from the get-go. My analog probe read it correctly, but the digital read it at 4.2 pH. If you purchase run this experiment to see if the sensor is working for you.

stick into the ground it does the rest
I'm new to this soil moisture & PH of the soil business. This makes it very easy to do, stick it into the ground and does the rest and all you have to do is read the display. It seem to be durable I have not broken it yet. I have fresh battery in it so can't say much about the life of it. I think its good value for the money you know right away than 30 minutes later and still trying to read strips on a card and the back of the bottle, I still didn't know what I was looking at. For me this works out.

Doing fine durable not junk or cheap.
These have been really helpful. I have garden and potted plants. Display easy to read, battery life great, durabile i use daily. Well made. Now i dont guess if i need ph, water, or sunlight. Very good.

Great help for gardeners
This is a great meter for checking everything in your garden and greenhouse. Because I am able to monitor everything precisely, my veggies and herbs have done very well. Originally bought it just to check the ph levels, but have found the moisture meter to be very helpful.

Talk to me what happens inside.
I've searched long before about this kind of machine which can tell about the plants. This product comes across to me when I search for the grow light. Even 5 kinds of information tell. why not. With over 50 plants, it's hard to track all plant conditions.Yes, it's a Chinese product and not that cheap but it came with quite a detailed manual and explanation of each function. it needs 4 AAA batteries which makes it heavy on the top head part.Recently I got several grow lights and this lux meter is quite useful even though we can use cell phones. The first priority is soil moisture 2 lux, 3 PH, 4 temps, 5 fertility for me know.1. soil moisture. I am not sure about the correctness, but I can satisfy the speed to check and show the percentage of moist and easy condition levels ( dry_,dry+, nor, wet_,wet+) like.2. light meter, is also quite detailed about the lux and easy levels(Low_Low+NorHihg_high).. I recently bought several grow lights and this shows most grow lights need closer to the plant which can effective only 1 or 2 plants. Also, additional info for me about the temp, pH, and nutrient level can easily and quickly be checked. and C/F big button is also good.Con? or need to improve?- 1. heavy on top. so it is not easy to check small plant pots.2. readable .. temps and ph are in the middle with big letters so it easily shows information but it took up space to show other information, i prefer to see moisture and lux but it is a small letter but readable. I hope the size may same or can change will be better.3. light on/off button? it is also a readable option, I hope it will be good for the light-on mode so I can check without pressing other buttons again.Overall, I am so happy about my purchase of this soil meter.
