5 star all the way!
I found it! That perfect rifle scope! Exactly what I was looking for a a price I could afford. Originally I purchased a Bushnell 1-4x24mm AR Optic and it was a swing and a miss as described in the review. This scope has everything the way it should be inside and out. Outside it looks great, has a nice smooth and easily operated zoom control and focus, has a solid illumination control with 11 settings right on top of the eye piece so you can clearly see it, capped turrets and nicely accommodates Vortex flip caps. On the inside it features actual crosshairs you can actually see in most scenarios as opposed to the the tiny "tactical" reticles other scopes have, and in the few scenarios you can't see your impact point you get a nice crisp red center dot which is all you need. It's not overwhelming in your sight picture and it won't drain your battery. On a 6 illumination setting which you'll use 90% of the time you'll get 3 days of continual use of battery life! Clear images on all power settings and on 1x power you can use it just like a dot sight with both eyes open for CQB. The most versatile scope I've ever had and I really hope it performs the way it should at the range. As long as it holds a zero I'm good! Don't have any doubts though, I have a Vortex Strike Fire dot sight and it's performed amazing on multiple 5.56 platforms so I have great confidence in Vortex. Not to mention I had my order fulfilled by Amazon so even IF something goes wrong they'll make it all better like they always do. Worth the extra $50. Buy with confidence on this one! Update: Took it to the range not too long ago and this baby rocks! Slapped it on top of my Tavor with some UTG rings and up to 100 yards it was right on the money! Took minor tweaking at around 200 and 300 yards but it was minimal and with the hand turned turrets under the caps it was super easy to adjust. Even marked so you can reset with no issues. At $300 for the scope rings and caps this thing is a friggin steal!

Awesome scope, worth more than the price.
I personally received the wrong item in the box. Not sure what happened there, but the scope I got definitely wasn't the correct one. Returned it and received a refund. Amazon is really great with their return policy. The reason I'm still leaving a review is that I ended up buying this exact scope elsewhere, for a super bargain price. Great design, lifetime no questions asked warranty, Perfect reticle, nice thin crosshairs, parallax adjustment works great, at lowest and highest magnification, the entire FOV is extremely clear, and the lenses provide a perfect view. The large sun shade is very effective. Very easy to zero, and together with my home built custom AR: Shilen match grade .223 wylde 20" 1:8 barrel, Mega nickel boron upper and lower receiver set, JP clamp on adjustable gas block, Aero Precision Mlok handguard installed with Seekins barrel nut (Aero handguard is only designed to work with special proprietary Aero upper receivers, but I researched the mounting screw holes and used a seekins barrel nut), and of course a Vortex Crossfire II 6-24x50, I'm able to shoot .3 MOA at 100yds with hand loaded 77gr SMK's from a bench rest. The rifle would probably cost $4000 if it were a factory gun. Sorry, I can't help but brag about my Custom AR work, and what the gun is capable of. I planned on using a much more expensive optic, and use this one temporarily until the budget would allow something a little more fitting for the gun. But I'm so please with this scope, that I'm going to leave it on there. This optic is worth much more than it's price, and it's impossible to be disappointed by it. Buy it. You won't regret it. Unless you get the wrong one! The one I received didn't even seem to be a Vortex. It looked like it may have been previously returned, or something weird like that. Whatever, it happens. Happy Shooting!!

Great value for money
Excellent optics. Clear reticle and great light gathering. Just as good as more expensive scopes I've bought

Impressive scope ... incredibly large and forgiving eye box ... very clear optics too
This is an exceptional scope. It is clear and has very little distortion. You can move you head back and forth and side to side and the image stays clear. This is called eye box and in a real world usage is far more important than a lot of other things some scopes offer. Buy this scope ... don't get hung on up on things some people think are cool. You won't be disappointed!

Bang for your buck!
This is my first Vortex product and this scope is on par with Sigs inexpensive offerings. It’s a great time for shooters like me who need a little help for aging eyes, in the past a scope of this quality and features would have been out of reach of me and my pension check! Scope snobs could probably find reasons to be dissatisfied with it but like a lot of affordable kit available now the guns optics and ammo can outshoot me so it’s hard to blame the equipment. As they say, it’s not the arrow, it’s the indigenous person. Anyway, for one of their affordable scopes it’s bright, crisp, has plenty of adjustment, handsome, well made and appears ruggedly made, edge to edge clarity with good color rendition it’s a genuine bargain if it holds up. I’ve only used it for sighting in and then finishing up the 20 rnd box of ammo so far but am happy with it out to around 100 yds. I like the heavy duplex reticle, I’ve used them more than others and don’t have to decipher what all the hash marks mean, it’s mounted on a Ruger Mini 30, not the most accurate rifle but cranks out 3in groups consistently, the new scope didn’t tighten up the group size but has a much better field of view and is noticeably brighter and, I think, due to the comfortable eye box is faster on target as well much better than the older Bushnell Banner 3X9 I was using since I bought the gun in the 80’s. All I’n all I’m very happy and wholeheartedly recommend this scope, even if you can afford a ‘better’ one take a look here and see if it’s not a good way to afford more ammo, THAT will make you a better shooter. Sincerely, W Buck

Basic but functional
This 1-4x24 optic is clear, simple, and effective. The red dot illumination is not very bright. It does not compete with a dedicated red dot for brightness, but it’s not meant to. The reticle is simple and familiar. The optic has great eye relief and target acquisition is fast and straight forward. Note if you plan to mount a high red dot or holographic on top of your scope mount, using something like a Burris P.E.P.R the illumination turret is very tall and sits high on top of the scope, making it nearly impossible to acquire a top mount red dot sight picture. To run a secondary red dot, you’ll need a 45 degree offset mount. Aside from this, the optic is great. Not amazing in low light conditions, but still functional. The illuminated red dot washes out in sunny conditions, but the reticle can be run without illumination, and presents like a standard crosshair. Very close to a true 1x, a great for CQB. Turret adjustment has a positive click feel, but not a positive click sound. No biggie though. Holds zero well, and if you have a hunting background, you’ll feel very comfortable with this reticle. No frills, no complicated reticle, no unnecessary magnification. Only wish it had a lower illumination turret, was a little lighter, and a quick throw lever. But for a sub-$200 optic, I have zero complaints.

great choice for AR if you know what you want
I evaluated this Vortex 1X4 side by side with its big-brother, the Vortex 1X6 Strike Eagle. I loose-mounted them both with batteries in my offset QD mount on top of my flat top receiver AR. I was planning to keep both, putting one on one rifle, the other on another. Here's why I kept the 1X4 and sent the 1X6 back for refund: -eye relief was longer and more forgiving on the 1x4, especially at max power, where it was a real struggle to finesse a good sight picture and clear full field of view on the 1x6. This was the single biggest reason I preferred the 1x4. -I found the semi-circle BDC reticle on the 1x6 to be a distraction...it took up too much of the sweet spot in the middle of the scope. I think it would be a major distraction using this on cans on the river bank at close range, or on anything over 200 yards. The simple 4 plex traditional reticle of the 1x4 with its perfectly round tiny red dot in the middle was perfect for me. -the tightness of the variable power ring on the 1x6 was overly stiff; the 1x4 felt much smoother and you could adjust it with one hand while still keeping eye on target. You couldnt do that with the 1x6 cause of the torsional effort transmitted to the rifle while wrestling the power ring -using both eyes open on 1X was much more natural and easy with the 1X4 due to the non-obtrusive minimalist reticle...so it can be used just like the small-footprint 1X Aimpoint micro and Primary Arms clones -1x4 is slightly more compact and lighter -difference btw 4 and 6 X at distance was negligible....not worth putting up with all the above for a slightly higher X The one thing some guys might find a detractor with the 1x4 is the intensity of the red dot. The difference between the lowest and the highest settings is hard to discern. On highest brightness setting, its just visible during bright daylight, and in many harsh light situations I doubt you could see it at all....but would that matter if it was so bright? I think the "luminosity" and the small size of the dot is PERFECT for low-light and night use, with the crystal clear etched traditional reticle being all you need during daytime use. At this point I have only bore-sighted this after mounting. I will post a followup if there are any bad surprises at the range during live fire zeroing at 100 yds.

Very nice for the price with some very minor disappointments.
Easy set up with forward mount Vortex scope mount. I can even co-witness with the popup magpul sights (barely) through the bottom third of the lense. View is very clear, especially on 1X, where I will leave it most of the time. The size isn't objectionable, the crosshairs are thin enough to make for a good group but easy to pick up. The red dot, (on 11 power) is easy to see indoors with the lights on or in low light. With minimal adjustment I was center punching the red dot out of a shoot and see at 50 yards. Now overall I like it but here's the complaining - It comes with a flyer tied to it cautioning the installer to use a inch pound wrench, I suspect overtightening has damaged the tube and caused the black specks identified in the reviews. It comes with a bikini cover, functional but you need to figure in an additional $20 for pop up covers. I had no problems with the battery cover but I could see how it could be easly cross threaded and come loose because the threads are very shallow, start it with a counter clockwise turn to be sure it's aligned. 11 settings for a red dot that probably could use to be twice as bright and have two or three settings is lame. I doubt #1 could be seen without it being pitch dark. Its good enough if you want to turn it on and assume you cant see it until you are indoors (if used as a tactical entry scope) and the red dot will be a help in that case, but it still could be eotech brite and I wouldn't mind. There appears to be some slight magnification at 1X, not so much that I can't co witness or leave both eyes open, but not quite the same as a Eotech or red dot Vortex even. I suspect at distance it would effect the iron sights point of aim and wear on your eye if both eyes were open. I did get some 6 inches of horizontal stringing at 100 yards, which was weird because it was stacking them at 50 yards. Not saying it wasn't me or the gun but 4x may just not be enough magnification for my eyes at that distance, I will check my mount before I go shooting again.
