The Affordable Bokeh Beast
I’ve had some time to shoot with the Sirui Sniper 75mm f/1.2, and here’s my honest take. This lens punches way above its price point in many areas, though it’s not without a few trade-offs.What I Like:• Bokeh Beast – If you’re after creamy, dreamy backgrounds, this lens delivers. That f/1.2 aperture creates stunning subject separation.• Insanely Competitive Price – The price tag is almost half of what competitors are charging for similar fast primes. It’s a no-brainer for budget-conscious creators.• Lightweight & Portable – Despite the large aperture, the lens feels surprisingly light, making it easy to carry for long shoots.• Solid Build Quality – It feels well-constructed and durable in hand.• Sleek Design – The aesthetic is modern and clean. Plus, it comes in three color options, which is a nice touch for those who like to match their gear.• Fast Autofocus – Autofocus is quick and reliable, especially impressive for a third-party lens at this price point. What I Don’t Like:• Slightly Less Sharp Than Viltrox – Sharpness is good, but if you’re pixel-peeping, the Viltrox equivalent might edge it out slightly. That said, the difference is minimal and not noticeable in most real-world use.• No Weather Sealing – Would’ve been nice to have some protection against the elements.• No Image Stabilization – You’ll need to rely on in-body stabilization or a steady hand/tripod.• Limited Physical Controls – No aperture ring, and no manual/AF switch. These omissions limit flexibility for some shooting styles. My Experience:One hiccup worth mentioning—while the lens was advertised for next-day delivery, it arrived a day late. Not a huge issue, but something to keep in mind if you’re on a tight schedule.Final Thoughts:The Sirui Sniper 75mm f/1.2 is an incredible value. It’s perfect for portrait shooters who want shallow depth of field and a unique look without spending a fortune. While it’s missing a few pro features, the performance-to-price ratio is hard to beat. If you can live with its minor drawbacks, this lens is an absolute gem.
