Beauty in Decay. Urbex

Has some really cool photos and I also like the quotes in it from urban explorers. It's not completely full of photos, so be aware that there is a bit of text, and also many of the photos have the contrast upped and are otherwise touched up in post-production, so they're not completely natural straight out of the camera but it gives them an even grittier look. A cool book, overall, showcasing a variety of interesting places that most people will never otherwise see, as well as giving a sense of the art of UE photography. The cover also has a nice solid matte feel, for those of you who care about that!

This is a wonderful collection of photos with text. I purchased for a nephew and he was very impressed with the quality of photos and the book as well as the accompanying text.

Favorite photo book i bought this year!

This book has a beautiful collection of photographs depicting urban decay in abandoned settings. I love it.

This is a strikingly beautiful book, although a little unnerving.

Interesting to see how people left these places. Great images.

The photographs are mindblowing but the excessive use of High Dynamic Range software on most of them is really annoying. These pictures are meant to represent reality and that's the last impression I get by looking at them. The fascination with these places is that they are from the past but they are here and are real. The pictures in this book don't give that impression, they look more like snapshots from a modern quest computer game.

There is something undeniably creepy yet at the same time utterly fascinating about the images presented in Beauty in Decay. I would say it is an acquired taste but probably one that not many of us realise we have. You get a sense of the history, memories and emotions from shots taken in hospitals, asylums, factories and such - all abandoned, empty, derict, forgotten and "left as is". To be honest, I haven't a clue when it comes to the technical side of the imagery itself (the equipment and methods used), nor do I know enough about the scene, community, ideology etc of urban exploration to fully appreciate the narrative, but I just find the work presented here compelling and makes me want to learn more about the artisits and the locations, which can only be good thing. Definitely worth a look, especially if you have any inkling of an interest in such things, and a great price now through Amazon for beautifully presented photographic hardback.

First of all, this is not a how to book. There is absolutely no explanation as to go about taking magnificent (the word is weak) pictures like the ones that fill this book. It's mainly a picture book of great quality showcasing the best work from the best urban explorers in Europe. The little text there is is very inspiring and à propos. If you are already an urban explorer or are interested in honoring our history's decaying vestiges, this book will inspire you to take better photos or just encourage you to see these ruins as treasures waiting to be explored before they disappear forever.
