My wife writes: As well as loving the taste of honey, I’ve been interested in its therapeutic properties for some time. My mother-in-law used another well known therapeutic honey as an effective poultice and I use it whenever I feel a sore throat coming on, so I was very keen to try this honey as I understand that Sidr honey is used to treat a very wide range of ailments and has proven health benefits . This Sidr honey has a remarkably thick, almost gelatinous quality and stayed firmly on my tasting spoon making it easy to savour slowly. The texture is smooth and pleasant to the tongue. It has an unusual aroma which is intense yet delicate. The fragrance is interesting and difficult to place, probably reflecting its specific provenance in Yemen. The taste is also intense and different from most honeys I have tried. I like it but, being different, I think it may be an acquired taste. Other members of my family tried it and commented favourably both on the jelly like texture and unique taste. I can’t personally vouch for the honey’s therapeutic properties yet, however I intend to use it if I feel a sore throat coming on and prophylactically for other infections. While a little under £50 might feel pricey for a 200g jar of honey, it is a relatively rare commodity in that it is a raw honey from bees who feed only on one plant in one area of Yemen. It is also not unreasonably priced for an effective health related product. I will give this 4 stars now and if I become aware of clear benefits to my health over time, I will adjust this rating accordingly.
