Confirmed: it is solid wood. No mdf. The mattress slats are raw and not sanded at all but everything else is great quality sanded and sealed. Just a little bit of out gassing smell but most people wouldn’t notice—I’m just sensitive to it. Directions were easy peasy! And the bed was set up within an hour (even with a toddler and baby in tow) Ran into two small problems with manufacturer errors. One bolt included was defective (there was no hole where the hex tool goes in) and the other error was one hole wasn’t dug out enough for the bolt lock they provided to fit into. Everything else was predrilled and ready to go. Other things you need to know: There are some obnoxiously big stickers/warning labels placed on the wood. None are visible when assembly is finished but I will be using goo gone to get it off. And important: the ladder is only made to place on left side (hence the lack thereof for my final picture). Because we didn’t want to redo any pre drilled holes and because I have a bigger kid sleeping up here, we just opted for no ladder (which means no guard rails). In order to make it more sturdy since we have no rails, we did anchor three legs to the wall. Works great. Got a six inch foam mattress for it. I really was nervous with this purchase since no reviews and the info didn’t read accurate but after getting it—I’m grateful and glad it all worked out.
