Hypnobirthing: Practical Ways to Make Your Birth Better

Great read, even for those who have learned hypnobirthing before
Expecting our 5th kid, 3rd homebirth and I figured I'd refresh myself on hypnobirthing since it had been a couple kids ago that I had first done it. I can't recommend this book enough. For first timers and vets. You can never stop learning or relearning these skills and information. Even though some chapters were irrelevant to me like talks about induction or hospital birth, most of it was up my alley and so useful. I loved the style it was written and the voice of the author. I appreciated the breaks at the end of each chapter with a birth story that related to the chapter read. It also hoad such practical ways for husbands/partners to be involved. Again, even though its not our first rodeo it was great to read it again. Couldnt get enough. I'm glad I bought it and remembered how to use these tools during labor. Maybe I'll come back and update once our 5th arrives, in mid November, to see how well I put it to use :)- wife of Freddy

so helpful and practical
Super easy to read, a tad repetitive but probably good for learning and making sure the lessons stick. Feeling calm and prepared for labor. <3

Great read!
The only thing I didn’t know before starting this book is Siobhan is from the UK and there are some things that don’t relate exactly to the United States. I had to look up a couple things because I’d never heard of them. But don’t let that keep you from the wonderful knowledge that is this book. It’s chuck full of valuable information. She even includes affirmations, relaxation scripts, and a detailed example of a birth plan. I am impressed that she accounts in her book for plan B and acknowledges that having a plan for things we don’t expect can empower us even more. The book flows well. I found myself not wanting to stop reading. I’ve had 2 babies and 27 weeks with #3. I learned some things about my first 2 deliveries that I wish I would have known. I’m very excited this time to feel like I have more knowledge and thus more control. This book has made me want to do this thing right now. It’s so encouraging and uplifting.

Such a great, non-judgy book with skills that will last a lifetime
As a 38 yr old woman having my first child, I knew I wanted the medical comforts of a hospital birth, but wanted to do it as naturally as possible. I've heard a lot of these types of books really shame anyone who does anything but a homebirth, so I wanted to choose carefully. I can say I'm about 1/3 of the way through the book and know I made the right choice. The author is so non judgemental, fun, real, explores all different options and encourages an open mind because really- we can plan all we want but sometimes the universe has a different plan and medical intervention is needed. She covers techniques to apply to our everyday stressful modern living and my blood pressure has actually gone down since implementing some of the techniques. Such a great read, I highly recommend for others who want a natural and beautiful birth but understand that home birth isnt always the safest option for every women.

Eye opening
This book was so inspiring! It's not at all what I thought hypnobirthing was and I wish I had read it sooner. A lot of it is common sense but there's thing's you probably haven't heard before. The positivity is such a breath of fresh air. No matter what your birth plan is or what your birthing experience ends up being, this will make it so much better. I now feel more excited and confident and less fearful. No matter what, I will be able to control my birth the best I can and no matter what happens I'll feel good knowing I listened to my body and did the best I could. I highly recommend this book to every pregnant women out there.

MIND BLOWING!
Okay the sound of Hypnobirthing to me always sounded so crazy! After speaking with so many woman , (since I work with many of them a day with my profession) I learned that birth can be easy which in America and in American movies we have always been taught birth is a horrible experience that is painful etc. The best way to explain it is that birth doesn’t need to be that painful at all if you understand what your body is doing while your body is preparing for birth. Your body knows how to birth, just like it knows to sweat when your hot and give you goosebumps when your cold etc. American medicine is all about much money they can get out of your birth not what makes your birth better by forcing your body to do something medically. This book blew my mind and (I hate reading so I’m still shocked it got my attention enough to actually read it), but it makes so much sense. It was also a enjoyable read! You won’t regret this book. This book assisted in my outcome of laboring at home (while doing everything I was taught to do and understand). while straightening my hair, i then went to the hospital arrived at 7:18 am and my son was out by 7:51 am. They called me a unicorn but I personally know others who had a birth like this due to Hypnobirthing. Which is why I decided to give it a try! You might think no way, but seriously educate yourself!

Great practical book
I bought this book along with four other hypnobirthing books and this is the best one I think. I became interested in the topic just because who doesn’t want to be prepared for labor? But I am also majorly skeptical of a lot of natural birth mumbo jumbo, so i didn’t have high hopes for any of the books As much as I was willing to give it a try. I wanted some practical, nonjudgmental advice and this one was the best at delivering that. I haven’t gone into labor yet so we’ll see how helpful it is on the big day lol but if like me you want straightforward advice that doesn’t veer to far into just trashing the medical establishment, this is the book to get!

Reassuring
There was nothing particularly revolutionary in this book, but it really did make me feel more calm and even a bit excited for labour going in to the final stretch of my 3rd pregnancy. I haven't given birth yet, so I can't say how effective it will be, but everything in the book seems like a pretty common sense way to cope with discomfort, so I expect it will help. Oh, and there's no actual hypnosis necessary if you're a skeptic like me 🤣

Great book
This book was so useful in helping me prepare for my second birth (I wish I’d read it before my first baby!). It gives lots of good techniques to help you through all types of births including inductions and c-sections. It made me feel empowered to take control over my birth and it helped me feel so calm about all possible scenarios. I used the breathing technique during my labour and ended up with a completely unmediated birth which I hadn’t even planned to do! The breathing was just helping me enough that I didn’t need anything else. I definitely recommend this book as if leaves you very informed about labour and birth and you can just take what you want from it - it’s not all about home births etc. Knowing the science behind the contractions and the oxytocin etc was invaluable. Definitely worth a read!
