Review: Love this book. - Fantastic for learning about tailoring. My mother taught me how to sew. She was a professional seamstress. But tailoring was beyond my ability. Great book, couple small mistakes
High-quality book. However, I didn’t notice a couple small mistakes. It seems that other people in the review section have also noticed it doesn’t seem to be anything too detrimental, though, and as long as you learn what they’re teaching you, you should be able to spot it and fix it.

Good reference book
It's like the Reader's Digest sewing book for the 21st century. A good reference for basic sewing techniques.

Sewist Guide to Tailoring
Add this book to your collection if you are a sewist and enjoy reading about the finer skills of sewing (much like a cook or baker who enjoys reading a cookbook). The content is quite elucidating and an easy read. My only critique? The book’s binding could have been of a better quality.

Less about alterations more about making tailored clothes
A must have for anyone wanting to start making and altering clothes. I love this book as someone who appreciates a more conventional business style clothing look such as wearing vests, fitted blouses, wide leg trousers, etc. I thought it was going to be more alteration heavy but it was more about making business style clothes just for anyone who might have thought that.

Great reference
Nicely bound heavy paper, lots of illustrations and photos. Well organized, starting with the basics. Builds skills through sewing the included PDF patterns. Alison Smith is a wonderful instructor and the reason I purchased this book. I will use it as a reference book for complicated design elements like welt pockets and linings.

I have been sewing garments for many years & found that the intricacies of detail sewing and finishing is explained very well in this book. Recommend it for all sewers regardless of skill level.

Must have a little knowledge at least.
Not for a beginner, as much to follow with set drafts.. You must know terminology as you go along and a must to practice each of the ways described, to be perfect on techniques, well illustrated, step wise.

Great resource for learning tailoring and pattern customization
Great resource for learning how to tailor garments and patterns to your measurements. I love that the book comes with downloadable patterns that can be used for practice. The pattern resources that come with the book are actually really nice. The first part of the book focusses on basics. I would recommend this book for anyone from a beginner.

A comprehensive sewing/tailoring book
This is a great addition to my sewing book library. It is so comprehensive as to be suitable for sewers of all capabilities. It begins by showing some of the basic requirements and finishes with patterns (downloadable) for a self-sewn wardrobe. As it is published by Dorian Kindersley the photographs are clear and self-explanatory.
