A good attemp to describe 1965 war
Sir This is a short book on Indo - Pak war 1965 which covers only few fronts and not entire war and no word on the role of IAF and PAF or Indian Navy. This is very unfortunate that India is a very big country and there have been many war veterans from Indian Army but they have not tried to write their memoirs. A few journalist have tried who have no flair of the war and whose version is based on interviews and extracts from few books. This book is one of them, but the writer has worked hard to interview those who were connected 1965 war. This has made the book fascinating. War is not a good thing and it brings misery, and great loss of precious life and loss of material not only to who participate and their families but to entire nation. Lord Edward Grey(British Foreign Secretary 1905 to 1916) has rightly said at the beginning of Great War ^ that we shall not see lights lit in the Europe again.^ Britain lost its Empire due both world wars,, Europe and entire world suffered greatly. Who won in India Pak War of 1965 ? There was no victory either to India and to Pakistan and both the nations suffered huge loss of men and material. IAF suffered great loss at Pathankot air base, at Kalaikund air base and PAF violently and mercilessly attacked on advancing columns of Indian Army and IAF was nowhere seen - serious lack of coordination and air superiority of PAF in having F 86 and star fighter 103. PAF inflicted huge casualties to Indian Army and prevented their advancement and affected their moral. Mr Bhutto was responsible for 1965 war who misled President Ayub Khan for his and his family^s own selfish ends and likewise he was responsible for 1971 war. Allah gave him punishment and he and his family is almost finished. The writer has done good thing in describing life of war warriors like Abdul Hameed, Lt col A B Tarapore, Sub Ajit Singh and Brig D E Hayde. PENGUIN has set reasonable price for the book. I recommend this book t who who are ,interested in Indian military history

Inspiring war stories.
I loved the book and completed it in two days. The author narrates five battles - Haji Pir, Asal Uttar, Phillora, Barki, Dograi - and profiles the soldiers who have shown extreme courage in the face of adversity. The stories are of the men who actually fought on the ground. You won't find the politics of war or the military strategies devised at the highest level discussed here. The narrative looks one sided at times since the perspective is that of the Indian side alone. Nevertheless, it doesn't dilute the stories. The author is successful in portraying what it is to be a soldier, especially during conflict, and deserves praise for putting together the book within a tight deadline.

Victory tale of Indian Army The book which cherishes the memories & valor of those who laid down their lives for the motherland.
Another masterpiece by Rachna Bisht. Unsung Saga of our Indian brave hearts who laid down their life for their motherland. Numerous goose bump moments which never fails to moisten your eyes the way our jawans fought the enemies. The maps in every story makes reader understand & visualize the terrain much better & with ease. It also has collection of photographs of our Indian heroes at end of the book. Loved this line by author "For the men in olive green. Writing their stories taught me what valour is". Must read for every Indian !!

Captivating!
If you wanna know about the '65 war, this book is the answer. It comprises of all the 5 major battles of the war and takes you through them in the most intriguing manner, unfolding the details and the facts very painstakingly. Plus, each chapter also features an account of the war hero of that particular battle. There are several gut wrenching moments and they have been narrated so well that you feel like you were there. To sum up, this book is a journey of emotions and is totally worth your time and money.

A truly authentic and unbiased account of 1965 Indo-pak war as narrated by the war veterans.
A book that takes you back 50 years to the heroic deeds of valor of our armed forces. Indian Army showed an absolutely stunning case of sheer valor and courage in 1965 war which needed a equally wonderful writing for describing it. This book by Rachna Bisht Rawat matches it 100%. She has also presented the mistakes committed or rather the mistakes which happened from the Indian Army as well. Despite of these mistakes the army still managed to secure the objectives (twice in case of 3 Jats). Not just officers but the courage of sepoys is also mentioned duly which sometimes does not get required attention while telling war stories. I am giving 4 stars because a better quality of maps was expected.
