Can I use a m.2 nvme adapter to Sata card for mass storage? if so whats the limit of sata ports that could be used?

The adapter will slow the speed of the NVMe bus to the speed of the SATA bus, therefor, in theory, the SATA drive connected to the adapter should run as fast as the adapter’s advertised speed, which will be less then the speed of the PCIe bus, but enough for the SATA drive to achieve its potential.
