A Great Little SmartSet Clock Radio!!
What a great little Clock Radio!! I was looking for a small, easy to use Radio Alarm Clock. The screen is easy to read and the brightness of the display is easy to control. The size is compact which I liked. The alarm clock, and the radio was easy to set up and the radio comes in loud and clear. The vale of the price was great as this small clock radio works better then the $60.00 radio alarm clock I replaced. I wanted an alarm clock that automatically changed for day light savings time and the SmartSet feature does that which is a very nice feature. I would recommend this Alarm clock radio to anyone who wants a clear radio sound, easy to setup and a great price.

good value for money
mostly plusses, a couple of minuses. i had an emerson clock radio before but it broke due to falling on floor. i like their doing automatic settings. new one has station presets which is nice but you have to scroll through all presets even if you haven't used all 10. also size and shape is better, easier to handle for someone like me with only one good hand. old one had larger, brighter digits which was nice, better for failing eyes. minor inconveniences, all in all well worth the money.

small and compact, doesn't take up much nightstand room and seems to WORK PERFECTLY
didnt NEED to buy a new one since my 44 year old Panasonic still works with every feature. Just WANTED to try a new one. Its much smaller than my old one which i am going to drive to Goodwill with it MARKED ALL FEATURES WORK and it seems 'smarter' as it picked up local station am and fm and came up with date and time immediately. Kinda nice and of course, Emerson a SUPERB brand since my first using them back in 1960's

Decent radio for the price (update - no, it's not)
I had to search for a while, both locally and online to find a clock radio that offers AM radio. This one was inexpensive and had an "Amazon recommended" note in the description so I used that as a deciding factor. The readout on this is green; through experience, I've learned that blue lights are the brightest and red the least annoying if you prefer a dark room. Green is somewhere in the middle. This one offers a dimming mode for the readout - there are four options from very bright to dim and it was easy to find a setting that works for me. The instructions tell you to simply plug the unit into the socket and the time will automatically set itself to Eastern time. There are instructions to reset if you live in a different time zone which is a good thing, since when I plugged in, the clock did set itself - to exactly two minutes earlier than the actual time. There is an option to set the date, but I'm not interested in that in the middle of the night so I haven't done that. No date shows on the readout and I don't know what it would look like if the date was set. To turn on the radio you have to hold the "on" button down until the station numbers appear, and then wait about 5 seconds for it to turn on. The radio sound is slightly tinny, but not annoyingly so. All settings are made by small, round buttons on the top of the clock. Most of the buttons have two different functions, which can be confusing. The functions are etched into the buttons and clock case with no color differentiation so you're reading black words and symbols on a black case, and in very small print. I have "senior eyes" and find it difficult to see the function of each button. Because of that, and minimal instructions (also in very, very small print) in the manual, my efforts to find and set a radio station led to accidentally setting both wake up alarms. At first, I couldn't figure out why the radio kept turning itself on an hour to an hour and a half after I turned it off. When I figured out what was happening and couldn't find any instructions on how to unset the alarm, I called the Emerson customer service number in the instruction manual. That led to a classic, machine-answered "press one for service, press two for radio," etc., which, when I had pressed the final selection, led to the recording saying "good-bye" and hanging up on me. Three times. I requested a return slip from Amazon and was offered a call from them to discuss the problem. I accepted the offer and received a call within minutes. The person who called took a few minutes to research what I explained, and ultimately gave me accurate directions to turn off the unwanted alarm and correct the time setting. With that resolution, I kept the clock radio. I gave four stars because it's a decent clock radio, one star for accuracy as the instructions are incomplete (no info on turning the alarm), three for sound quality due to the tinniness of sound, and four for value because despite the issues, it does what it says it will do. Update: I've had this clock radio since 9/19, so just over six months. Last night, after going to bed after 1 am, I awakened hours later and looked at the time - the clock read 12:54 am. I checked my phone, and the actual time was 5:57 am. (By the way, the clock loses a minute every month or so.) This morning I unplugged and re-plugged it as it is supposed to set itself when you do this. It did not work. Additionally, the read January 1, 2017 - probably before it was manufactured. Saved radio stations were also lost. I have lowered my rating from four stars to one because a clock radio that malfunctions after six months is not worth owning.

It works and is inexpensive
I purchased this back in Nov. ‘22 and was pretty satisfied as I used it mostly for a clock, occasionally as a radio. Then it all stopped working, maybe a month ago. Because it was inexpensive, I ordered another. Each is presently working fine. Then I decided to replace the auxiliary battery on the original unit. Surprisingly, the radio came back on and seems to be working fine. Because the battery is supposed to last 3-5 years depending on how long it has been since manufacture, I didn’t think that was the problem. I.guess I should have paid more attention to see if there was a low battery alarm. There are lots of operating modes and the instructions have tiny print, and I felt it was hard to set up. Making a photo copy of the location of the controls would give a reference of their location because it is difficult to read the inscriptions on the unit since they are the same color. The fm band seems to work ok, but due, I think, to my location, the am band is virtually worthless. For a bedroom or bathroom use, I think the low cost makes this a good purchase.

Great Clock, but How Do You Disable the Alarm?
Many years ago (back in the mid-80s) I bought a digital clock radio that had all the basic functions and did them well - even more, it was a simple set-up. When the digital display started acting wonky I reluctantly realized I was going to have to replace it. It was like losing an old friend who had served me through the last years of my Army career, going back to college for my second career, and through my second career as a teacher. I needed a good, reliable alarm. That clock never failed, its battery operating for almost a week when a hurricane knocked the power out in 1995. My requirements to replace it were simple - a basic clock with a readable face, simple to program, a radio alarm function - WHEN I NEED IT - I learned in the Army the way you wake in the morning has a LOT to do with your mood the rest of the day. This Emerson clock seems to fit the bill. My gosh, it even sets itself! Adjusting to my Central Time Zone is no problem, its small, others complain about the sound of the radio - I have an excellent sound system for that - I want something that will wake me up in the morning, when I have to get up that won't rattle my nerves first thing. All systems check. So, why does this clock get only three stars? I'm retired and have a pretty good internal clock that wakes me at about the same time every day. I don't need an alarm clock every day and try as I might - I CAN'T GET THE STUPID ALARM FUNCTION TO TURN OFF!!! There is NOTHING about it in the stupid instruction manual (I guess I shouldn't complain, it's obvious English wasn't the writer's first language and he/she/it probably has a better command of English than I have of his/her/its primary language). I've tried the tricks mentioned by users and "Answers" provided on the Amazon product page, I've even looked at YouTube videos that provide solutions - NOTHING HAS WORKED!!! The best thing I've been able to do is set the alarm to later in the day in case I DO manage to sleep a bit late (sleep is a luxury for me) one morning. It appears the default is 8:00 am. That's usually late for me, but imagine sitting up with insomnia until 3:00 am and finally dropping off to have the alarm (which you thought you had disabled) go off at 8:00. I was not a pleasant person that day. I'd love to give this radio a 5-star rating but not being able to disable the alarm function when you don't need it seems to me to be a BIG deficiency. I know you're supposed to be able to set it to go off so many days a week - that's fine, but what about those of us who only need an alarm clock occasionally?

Can't go wrong with Emerson.
Great clock radio alarm and the size is perfect for nightstands - small. I have to keep the manual nearby, though, as the functions require different movements than what I'm used to but I'm still glad I got it, cos, other than that it works great (good reception).

So Easy to Use!!
Loving this alarm clock. It is so much easier to use than the one it replaced. Love how it automatically set the time. Appreciate that you are able to adjust the brightness.
