What percentage of polysaccharides does this contain?

Hi Joshua,Polysaccharides are a poor measurement for mushroom products as polysaccharides include a wide variety of compounds such as starch, glycogen, arabinoxylans, cellulose, chitin, pectins, etc.The main component to look out for is starch which is why we test our products for starch. Starch is an alpha-glucan and a polysaccharide. Many medicinal mushroom products are actually made from the mycelium (mushroom root system) grown on grain and this grain ends up in the final product. Grain contains starch so this grain contributes to the polysaccharide number. Another example is the use of fillers like dextrose and maltodextrin. These are starches and will also spike the polysaccharide count. So as an example, a mushroom product could tout 70+% polysaccharide and be primarily fillers. This is why measuring polysaccharides is such a poor measurement of quality. Independent testing has shown many medicinal mushroom products touting high polysaccharides to be primarily starch with very little of the important mushroom compounds.The important polysaccharides in mushrooms are the beta-glucans. These are the compounds that the majority of the medicinal mushroom research is based on. We test all of our products for beta-glucans, because that is the compounds that matter and it doesn’t count any potential grains or fillers.This why we specifically measure beta-glucans instead of polysaccharides so you know you’re getting the important active compounds. By measuring starch we also show that our products contain no fillers.If you see any products talking about polysaccharides you should completely ignore their numbers as they are meaningless. Does it also contain hericenones and erinacines?

The mushroom (fruiting body) has been shown to produce hericenones and erinacerins. (Ma, B.-J., Shen, J.-W., Yu, H.-Y., Ruan, Y., Wu, T.-T., & Zhao, X. (2010). Hericenones and erinacines: stimulators of nerve growth factor (NGF) biosynthesis in Hericium erinaceus. Mycology, 1(2), 92–98.)

Our product is made solely from the mushroom so these compounds should be present.

Erinacines are produced in the mycelium.

An important caveat is that we know of only one product that contains pure lions many mycelium. Pure mycelium is produced via liquid fermentation and solely comes from China. Please be aware of this.

Almost all lions mane mycelium products are not pure mycelium. They are myceliated grain and the majority of the product is actually grain. This means that any possibility for erinacines being present will be severely limited. As these compounds already occur in small amounts, further dilution would like make them undetectable.

Myceliated grain is a process used by "U.S. Grown" products. Myceliated grain can also be identified on the label by terms like "fermented", "full spectrum", "myceliated brown rice", "organic white milo", "mycelial biomass", etc.

There is currently no way to measure hericenones, erinacerins and erinacines. If we knew of a lab that could measure them, we would be measuring them.

Based on clinical trial data, we recommend consumers to look for extracts made solely from organic mushrooms (fruiting bodies) as this is consistent with the current human clinical trial data (see sources below).
