Great potting soil - what I wanted
Fox Farm Ocean Forest potting soil: It smells like good potting type soil. No off odor noted. Feels good in my hands. I would describe it as light loamy compost with perilite. It is what I was hoping for and expecting. The consistency was the same throughout the bags. Both bags that I received appeared and felt the same. I did not measure the amount, both bags felt equal and appeared to fill the bag the same. I am trusting that when the bag states 12 quarts, it is 12 quarts. I wish I bought more. I used both bags and a bag of a different type Fox Farm (Happy Frog) potting soil from a different seller (very pleased with it as well). I will have to look at the bags to determine the actual difference between the 2 types because I couldn't see or feel any significant difference between the 2 types. Dry: three 12 qt bags barely filled my 20 inch diameter, about 2.5 feet high round planter. Oh, forgot to mention that I did place some cardboard from boxes at the bottom of the planter. Should probably plan on at least four 12 quart bags once it settles and compacts down a bit after watering. Shipping packaging was excellent from this seller as well. Each bag was packed in their own box with both in a bigger box. This soil is expensive, but I think it will be worth it. I had some creeping crawling bugs on the very outside of the shipping box, but did not see any on the bags or in the soil. So I don't know where the outside of box bugs came from. Overall, extremely pleased with my order. I highly recommend buying more of the same from this seller!

Wheatgrass Thrives—And So Do My Cats!
I bought this soil specifically to grow wheatgrass indoors for my cats, and it’s been a total win. The texture is light and fluffy, making it easy to plant and water without compacting. Within days, the wheatgrass sprouted strong and vibrant, and it’s stayed lush thanks to the soil’s excellent moisture retention. The blend of organic ingredients—like earthworm castings and bat guano—clearly gives the grass a nutrient boost. My cats absolutely love nibbling on it, and I feel good knowing it’s grown in high-quality, pH-balanced soil. If you’re growing wheatgrass or any indoor greens, this is hands-down the best soil I’ve used. No fuss, no additives needed—just open the bag and plant. Highly recommended for pet parents and plant lovers alike!

Great product, rough price
This may not be the best value for the money, but I needed to repot some plants and am not able to go to the plant store right now (where I could have gotten this for half the price). I use Fox Farms soil with some additives like peat moss, coco coir, orchid bark, river rocks, and extra perlite. I’ve been doing this for over year and all my plants have done well. It gives a good balance of moisture retention with space for the roots to breathe and prevent root rot. Perhaps most importantly to me though, is that I have never gotten gnats from Fox Farms soil like I have from every single bag of Miracle Gro I’ve ever used.
