I found the backgrounds I have were bowed, touching the glass in the centre of each panel. Maybe this is normal and happens during the manufacturing of them. So I used a band saw to cut them and was very easy, using a Stanley knife may not be as easy but if care is taken then there should be no problems. The backgrounds are thin at one edge, so this is perfect for fitting against the filter and wedging against the glass front. Silicone is used to stick it all together to the glass, I had to use supports to hold the background in place were it was not touching the glass. Using two wood lengths to push the corners in place and cramping them together, top and bottom front to back and so on. You just have to do I dry run to make sure it all fits.
