Great hand-held flashlight, in addition to being a great bike light--but I would love to find a way to attach a lanyard. Any thoughts on that?

No real loop to run a lanyard cord through. However, the surface has square treads on it. So, a zip tie would stay in place securely. I would use a zip tie to hold the lanyard cable and the light together.

The battery is supposed to last 7 hours on normal mode, but how long does it last on 860 lumens?

I haven't completely drained mine yet but I have used it at least 4 hours on 860 lumens

Defective battery or light? I followed instructions & the battery anode faces forward & rear cap securely tightened. Charged 12hr but no light!

When charging this unit, a blue light should appear around the on/off button all during the charging, and it shuts off when the battery is fully charged. If this is not happening, check the way you are charging.

Can you mount it on your helmet?

Not with he hardware it comes with--unless I missed something. You could probably saw off the bracket and screw it into your helmet with a backing plate. Seems like too much trouble.
