NATIONAL BESTSELLER โข A CALDECOTT HONOR BOOK โข OVER 8 MILLION COPIES SOLD! The cherished childhood classic of a fearless little girl and her eleven lovable housemates is available as a sturdy board book for curious hands! One of The Atlantic โs 65 Essential Childrenโs Books "Perhaps the best bedtime book ever written."โ The New York Times โIn an old house in Paris That was covered with vines Lived twelve little girls In two straight lines. The smallest one was Madeline.โ So begins the story of Madeline, a young girl living in Paris with her eleven closest friends under the care and protection of Miss Clavel. What she lacks in size, Madeline makes up for in courageโsheโs not afraid of tigers or mice, and often likes to stand out amongst the rest of the girls. Nothing seems to frighten herโuntil one night, when things take a scary turn. With its endearing, courageous heroine, cheerful humor, and whimsical drawings of Paris, this sturdy board book from acclaimed author and illustrator Ludwig Bemelmans is sure to stand the test of time. Let Madeline and her friends walk two straight lines right off the page and into your familyโs heart! Review: ๐๐ 5 out of 5 Stars โ A Timeless Classic That Captivates Every Generation ๐ซ๐ท๐ - "In an old house in Paris that was covered with vines..." โ with just that opening line, Ludwig Bemelmansโ Madeline immediately transports readers into a charming, poetic, and visually captivating world that has remained timeless for generations. I grew up reading Madeline, and now, sharing it with my own child has been one of the most joyful and nostalgic experiences. Thereโs something uniquely comforting and magical about this story. Itโs beautifully simple yet deeply memorable. Madeline, the smallest and bravest of the twelve little girls living in a Parisian boarding school, is a character full of spunk, heart, and undeniable charm. The Writing: Bemelmansโ rhythmic, rhyming prose makes the book a delight to read aloud. The cadence is soothing yet playful, and young readers quickly begin to anticipate and even recite lines themselves. The story is engaging without being overly dramatic, and its gentle humor and understated emotion make it enjoyable for both children and adults. It subtly touches on themes like bravery, independence, routine, and the bittersweet realities of life โ like going to the hospital โ in a way thatโs accessible and reassuring to kids. The Illustrations: The illustrations are truly a masterpiece of their own. Bemelmansโ signature artistic style โ bold ink lines, watercolor washes, and a limited color palette โ evokes the feeling of old Paris. The contrast between the regimented, symmetrical lines of the girls walking in two straight lines and the lively chaos of Madelineโs adventures adds an extra layer of charm. My daughter loves pointing out Miss Clavel, the Eiffel Tower, the dogs, and other Parisian landmarks as we read. Why It Matters: Madeline isnโt just a cute character โ she represents bravery, curiosity, and individuality. Even though sheโs the smallest, she stands out the most, and not because she tries to โ but because of who she is. She faces fear with courage, doesnโt mind being different, and has a spirit that resonates long after the book is closed. Final Thoughts: Madeline is the kind of book that every child should grow up with โ a classic that never loses its magic, even decades later. Itโs not only a wonderful introduction to the beauty of storytelling and art, but also to life lessons that are gentle and affirming. Whether youโre reading it for the first time or the fiftieth, Madeline remains a beautifully crafted, heartwarming story that belongs on every bookshelf. Perfect for gifting, bedtime stories, or just a quiet moment of literary joy. Review: Sweet story. - Favorite book of mine. Cute story. Great gift for young girl.

For all generations
A classic! My mom read it as a child and then read it to me and my brother. I bought this particularly for my niece so the next generation can enjoy it as much as I did. Mom and Dad gave props too for the cover and pages because we are in the out everything in our mouth stage.
