An absolute bargain! I originally bought this collection for 'Lady Soul', Aretha's standout studio album from 1968, and the remarkable live album 'Live At Filmore West'. I've played both CDs so much that it's been worth the price alone but I've also fallen in love with 'Spirit In The Dark, a heavily blues and gospel influenced record from 1970. Featuring mostly original songs, including five written by Aretha herself, 'Spirit In The Dark' feels more personal and intimate than Aretha's better known R&B hits. The album also showcases what a talented pianist she was, as well as a great songwriter. I haven't spent as much time with the other two albums in this box set, 'Aretha Now' (1968) and 'I've Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You' (1967) - first track being Respect, just FYI - but it's all top soul and R&B from the best voice in the business. We miss you Aretha, there won't be another like you. Review: Astonishing value - I bought this boxed set because the sound quality of the old compilation I bought in the late 80s was so poor and my music system showed up all the flaws, which detracted somewhat! Apart from a bit of analogue hiss, the quality of these recordings is very good indeed, particularly at the price, and I'm pretty critical! You do have to bear in mind that the originals were made over 40 years ago. If you want decent Aretha recordings, incorporating that magical 1960s feel and without paying the earth, then you won't go far wrong with here.

That Aretha Woman, Not Bad Was She?
The live album is filler or it would be five stars not four. Actually heck it should be ten stars. I'm adding the other one, hang on. There done it. Any one of the other albums would be worth the tenner so really you buy one get four free. Bargain.

The first five albums
As a product fantastic. You might want to get a greatist hits package for all the best hits.

Aretha CD
Very nice collection of her music, the recordings are nicely mixed for listening pleasure, I found this to be reasonably priced, delivery was before the time, all in all, a pleasant purchase experience.
