The ending was definitely something!
“For the reckless souls who dare to love and be loved” I’ve seen this one getting a lot of mixed reviews and I honestly can’t say I disagree with them because this book is not for everyone. I read Powerless back in May and was so eager for July to come soon just so I could get my hands on Reckless, and now I’m feeling slightly disappointed. One of the major plus points that Powerless had for me was its plot development and Reckless had little to none of it. Long story short, the whole book was about Paedyn and Kai walking in the desert. However, even though Reckless lacked in being plot driven, the character development more than made up for it. The inner turmoil that Kai, Paedyn and Kit go through is an important one to witness and Lauren Roberts showcased it perfectly. It truly set the tone for the third book which I’m hoping will focus more on the storyline. Reckless is a story about fighting for what you believe in, even when the odds are stacked against you. It also throws light upon conflicts of class, the destructive impact of power, and the enduring strength of the human spirit. Even though Reckless didn’t tick the right boxes for me, I’m very much looking forward to the third installment in this series. If the ending of this book was anything to go by, we’re definitely in for a banger with the third one!

So excited for the next one!
This was one of my most anticipated reads last year, but I kept putting it off because I was nervous about the cliffhanger at the end. I finally picked it up last month after the release of the final book in the series and I’m so glad I waited as I can now binge the last two books back-to-back. The story picks up right where the first book left off, with Paedyn fleeing to Dor and Kai, bound by duty, is tasked with tracking her down and returning her to Ilya. The world-building was so vivid, I felt like I was right there with the characters. And the slow burn between the main characters? Torturous in the best way. I wanted to lock them in a room and force them to talk it out but watching them slowly open up to one another had me rooting for them even more. The character development was written so well. Some plot twists genuinely caught me off guard, while others were a bit more predictable, but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment. Although the pacing was slower than the first book and the action felt a bit toned down, the emotional depth and character moments were so compelling that it more than made up for it. This sequel definitely made me even more excited to read the next book!

EXCUSE ME, THAT ENDING??
The second book in the Powerless Trilogy did not disappoint, if the amount I tabbed and the amount I highlighted the book is anything to go by 🥹 I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again: this book is for romance readers not for fantasy lovers. This is two people finding their way back to each other, finding out what they will sacrifice, finding out what they need from the world. Being reckless with their beliefs and finding love where may be there shouldn’t be. It’s minimal on plot, some even say nothing happens, and I can understand why people dislike it or find it problematic. Do I understand these things and did I still rate it 5 stars? Yes. Am I an almost 30 year old obsessed with teenagers falling in love? Also, yes. Have I developed a somewhat unhealthy crush on Kai? Again, in case you misunderstood, YES. Lauren Roberts’ writing again, is like poetry. And that ending? Excuse me, ma’am 😳😤 I needed 4 business days to recover. Highly recommend this trilogy. I need that third book like, yesterday. Roll on April 🫡
