The king of platformers
This game is simply one of the best in the platform genre. Its full of life, colour and a nice challenge for anyone who enjoys platformers. DK controls amazingly in this game. Very responsive as you traverse through these deceptively tricky stages that are so well crafted, and so beautiful to look at. Set pieces are plenty and all are accompanied by wonderful scores of music, both remix's of classics and new tracks to get you immersed in this world. Their are 3 other kongs to find as you play and each can change the way you play as well as help find all the secrets a stage has to offer. Finding all the KONG letters in every stage of every island will reward you with a challenging level even the most hardcore of gamers without ever feeling unfair. Though they are optional and not needed to finish the main game. This is a hard game and if you'd like an "easier" time then the new funky long mode is what you need. It doesn't make the game too easy as levels are identical but gives you more health and tricks to avoid death. Though he cannot partner up with the other kongs. Speaking of the other kongs you can have a player 2 join at any time which is great and is just the cherry on the cake of this fabulous game. Yes this has very little changed from the wii u version which you can pick up cheaper. But if you've not played this and want a wonderfully crafted, bouncy, fun and challenging experience I can think of no better game for this genre on the switch.

One of the all-time great platformers
Top class platforming! Beautiful to look at, incredibly fun and addictive to play, but also deeply infuriating at times as the difficulty level increases. The big difference between this and the original game is that you can play as Funky King which makes the game a lot easier, eg you can float over spikes. This is great for kids. My son gave up on the original game when we had it on a previous console because it was just too tough for him. But this allows him to enjoy the game without wanting to hurl the controller at the screen. The boss levels are fiendishly difficult as before but patience is rewarded. The game is full of cute surprises and classic Nintendo humour. What's not to love?

Great game!
I must say, as a young single gay male this game has kept me entertained for days on end! I have forgotten about dating full stop recently because I just want to play this game 24/7. Must get back out there and find another man who appreciates this game as much as I do other men. 100% worth it guys.

I’ve been playing Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze on the Nintendo Switch, and wow, this game is both amazing and frustrating (in a good way). If you’re into Mario etc, this one is definitely worth checking out, but there are a few things to keep in mind. What I Loved: • Incredible Level Design: The levels are gorgeous and super creative. Every stage feels different, with unique themes, challenges, and even music that perfectly fits the vibe. It’s not just a game—it’s an experience. • Challenging Gameplay: This game does not hold your hand. It’s tough but rewarding. Every time I beat a tricky section, I felt like I earned it. And when I messed up (a lot), it was usually my fault, not the game’s. • Playable Characters: You can play as Donkey Kong or get help from characters like Diddy, Dixie, and Cranky Kong, each with their own abilities. It’s fun experimenting with what works best in different levels. • Funky Mode: If the challenge feels overwhelming, there’s Funky Kong, who makes things easier with extra health and moves. It’s perfect if you just want to enjoy the game without raging. What Could Be Better: • Difficulty Spikes: The game can go from manageable to “pull-your-hair-out hard” in the blink of an eye. My kids who are 7 find parts really tough and I have to help them, especially when sliding down the vines. It’s satisfying once you beat a level, but it can be frustrating in the moment. • Boss Battles Drag On: The boss fights are cool and creative, but they take a while. Sometimes it feels like they last a bit too long, especially if you keep dying and have to restart. • No Co-Op Online: You can play co-op locally, which is fun, but there’s no option to play online. In a world where so many games have online features, this feels like a missed opportunity. • Controls Take Time to Master: The controls can feel a little floaty at first, especially when making precise jumps. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it takes a bit of practice. Bottom Line: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is an absolute blast for platforming fans. It’s challenging, visually stunning, and packed with charm. Just be ready for some tough moments and long boss fights. If you like a mix of fun and frustration with a big payoff, you’ll love it. And if the difficulty scares you, Funky Mode is there to save the day, especially with the kids. Definitely worth picking up for your Switch.

Great game
The game is just a joy to play. Every level is unique and brimming with charm, from the begrudged but determined enemies, to the vibrant backgrounds. It's always fun to see how you can interact with each level, and discover its secrets. You are continually collecting lives in each stage, so when some sections become tricky you are always encouraged to try again, so anyone put off by the difficulty from games like this in the past, shouldn't be.
