Very sturdy. Well worth the price!
The meter feels solid and well constructed. The plastic is thick and study (no creaking or flimsiness). The battery compartment has a proper O-ring and the rest of the unit looks to be sealed with glue/silicone. Nice Japanese OEM batteries are included so it's ready to go out of the box. It's a bit larger than other meters, but that makes it easier to handle. The lanyard very convenient when taking direct measurements inside larger reservoirs such as 50 gallon drums. Even if you do drop this meter into your reservoir it'll be fine because it's fully waterproof. This meter does not provide exact numeric measurements on a display like some others, but the LED indicators are easy to read and intuitive. If one indicator blinks, then your nutrient concentration is at that level. If two LEDs alternate blinking then the measurement is about halfway between those values. The precision should be enough for any hydroponics system. The meter turns on automatically when it detects water above the minimum PPM and turns off automatically after displaying the reading for a while. There are no controls on the meter. It doesn't turn on when immersed in common tap water, so accidental battery drain isn't a problem. The detector element itself is also very sturdy and easy to clean. I usually rinse it off every few measurements and store it in the protective case. Buy it!

Great for stirring too
Its nice out of the box. I got accurate reading from this right away comparing it to two separate meters. I always wanted one and I'm glad I got it now. I still don't know if this is something you would only wanna use with large volumes or if its the perfect grow accessory for everybody. Its already better than a pen just for the fact that you can ditch one for button battery device as this uses a battery's but I can't remember if its triple or double.

My favorite garden toy!
This product is a joy to use! Upgrading from a cheap Chinese-made digital meter, the experience is night and day different. The readings are quick, CONSISTENT, and super easy to read. I love that this doubles as a nutrient stir stick, and the no button/no switch design makes it effortless to use. Here's the difference between this product (commercial) and the standard truncheon: the commercial has a wider measurement range, from 0.4 EC to 6.0 EC. That's it. The standard truncheon goes from 0.2 EC to 3.6 EC. The standard model is fine for any hobbyist, but you may want the commercial if you are going to mix up nutrient liquid concentrates, and then add them to your nutrient reservoir through an automated measuring and dosing system. I purchased the commercial model because it was on sale for the same price as the standard model, and I thought "commercial" must equal "better." I probably don't need the increased range, but I have no regrets: it works perfectly fine for my purposes, and I can upgrade later to an automated dosing system if I choose. Whichever model you get, the Truncheon is absolutely worth the price of entry. It's so easy and intuitive, and cleanup is just a spritz of tap water or a dab with a towel. Nutrient testing is now my favorite part of the routine.

Perfect, wonderful, excellent
I bought a cheap brand from from Amazon and I was sorry. It took me a few days to realize what was going on, and by then, some of my plants were dead. The readings started being erratic, but unlike the airplane pilots that crash because they don't trust their instruments, I decided to trust my instruments, and that killed some of my plants. Then I bought this one from Bluelab. Problem solved. You get what you pay for and I know that, and I should have done this in the first place. It turns on when you put it in liquid and it turns off a few seconds after you take it out, to give you time to look at it even more if you want to before it turns off. It comes pre-calibrated and has a 5-year warranty. It's waterproof. It got here in about 8 hours with free shipping, and it came on Father's Day. Not that I want to but I can't figure out how anybody would rate this less than five stars.

Han enviado el standard que tiene el rango de EC solo hasta 3.6 cuando el comercial tiene hasta el 6. Espero que lo corrijan y envíen lo que se indica en la descripción

I seemed to have variations in my EC measurements in the beginning. I used a calibration fluid, which that or the Truncheon were suspect. . I contacted Bluelab twice, they answered promptly and they gave me some good advice. If you don't have the cleaning kit; which I don't, they advise plain old baking powder. Make a paste and give the electrodes a good cleaning . I used a piece of chamois on a plastic handle (non oily) They sold these to clean styus on analog record decks. I began to use the Truncheon with confidence. I have tested my tap water which comes out between EC .3 / .4 - Rain water doesn't conduct and shows nothing on the scale as it should. I am sure it is working fine now. The nutrient charts showing dilution and target EC values are in the 'ball park'. Initially one considers it expensive? however the guarantee period gives assurance and value. The Truncheon is very well made/manufactured so very durable and should last a long time. Conclussion: very good value and recommended
