I didn't scrub it at all and had amazing results. It didn't smell too caustic or anything, and some got in my eye from the wind but it didn't hurt or need any attention. Used it this summer on some serious rust on a jeep floor panel. I followed manf. instructions best as I could. Removed as much loose rust as possible.Thoroughly wet it down w/metal blast, waited, and rinsed with water while metal blast was still wet. I let it dry completely before coating with rust bullet. I could see the transformation of the rust layer after metal blast. Seemed to convert the rust to a solid base. I believe this uses phosphoric acid, so likely the reason for thorough rinsing. I would think the rust bullet may not adhere well if any residual acid is left behind. If left to dry, maybe respray a bit and rinse while still wet.Overall, seemed to work pretty good. I used this combo on many rusted areas on the jeep. In some spots aluminum body filler was used followed by paint. So far holding up ok. Will tell better after the salty upstate NY winter. The key is getting to ALL the rust. Good luck. **Q: how is the product used?** A: We put it in a spray bottle and we're using it to remove the rust from my old truck. **Q: Can I rinse this off with isopropyl alcohol or acetone rather than water?** A: No,don't know what will mix with this paint to dilute or clean tools. I try to clean my hands with: acetone,solvent,alcohol and no results. Some how some amount came of on my hands by hand cleaner mechanics used. Probably will come off in your hands in 2 weeks. On the car I clean with denatured alcohol before cumplit dry. For this reason I warned everyone to wear gloves. I know gloves they stick to brush handles and come off. For this reason my hands got this paint on and have to wait 2weeks to clean by self. From what I remember I used 2 different paints:1- Rust Bullet (gray color) 2-Sherlac Black (black color) for UV protection and oil protector. Know I'm spraying Fluid Film over and inside frame and stop rust. Never have a issues cleaning my hands from a paint before includes Por15. Upon dipping a rusty knife tip into the solution just covering the rust, it began bubbling, attacking and dissolving it. Foolishly and tragically, the rusty knife that was my late dad's from the 1960s or so I left in the solution overnight, and now I have a pitted, partly dissolved away stub. Salvageable, I can probably grind it down into a serviceable if shorter blade, but dang it, that's what I get for trying to be industrious when tired!
