Inside new, outside dirty and cover torn
Book arrived on time. The book inside is clean and looks new. Unfortunately, the book cover arrived torn and dirty.

Too Dense, Good Takeaways
This book could have been easier to read and much shorter. If you love all the research and in depth analysis on studies then this is a great book. The point could have been driven home just reading the last two chapters or summaries at the end but was filled in with a lot of research study data. This one was hard work to finish but the takeaways were definitely worth it.

See the disruption sooner and act faster!
The most important lesson from the book was why and how good companies got disrupted by competition. Clay Christensen demonstrated that large, well-run companies often overlook or downplay disruptive innovations because these new technologies or products initially fail to appeal to their most profitable customers or appear less lucrative. Many companies focus mainly on existing markets and customers. Yes, the customers are always right, and listening to customer feedback is vital. However, companies often miss market trends until it's too late because they only listen to their current customers and overlook those they haven't served yet. The book offered many good examples. However, the author spent too much time in the disk drive industry. It would have been more helpful to cover different sectors. For instance, the book briefly mentioned IBM's personal computer. It would be more beneficial if it included how IBM recovered in the computer industry after introducing the personal computer, only to lose market share to competitors. The author also emphasizes too much on low-end disruption, which is mainly driven by reducing costs. Disruption also happens in the high-end market. Towards the end of the book, he devotes a significant amount of time to electric vehicles. The introduction of Tesla electric vehicles for the high-end market first showed that his predictions for the electric vehicle market were incorrect. He overlooked the fact that it takes time for the cost of new technology to come down. Many of the recommendations might not make sense. For example, setting up autonomous units for innovation. Remember Bell Labs and Xerox's PARC? What happened to their innovations and inventions? The Innovator's Dilemma is a highly influential business book that shifted management's perspective on disruption caused by competitors. Christensen identified the primary reasons for corporate failure during technological change and proposed strategies for response. The most valuable insight from this book is "See the disruption sooner and act faster!"

One of the best
Has the author been selective with the examples. Sure. Are there cases out there that do not fit the theory, yes a few . But no strategic framework covers all cases across time, and businesses changes their behaviours in light of such frameworks becoming known. This book remains still very relevant and insightful, even 25 years on.

One of the must read books to understanding Product Discovery and Distribution Better!
[book:The Innovator's Dilemma: The Revolutionary Book that Will Change the Way You Do Business|2615] In the whole spectrum of Product Discovery, Development and Distribution, If you want to have a firm grasp , go in detail in the Product Discovery phase than this book is one of the must reads. This book introduces reader to Why do well-managed companies fail? He concludes that they often fail because the very management practices that have allowed them to become industry leaders also make it extremely difficult for them to develop the disruptive technologies that ultimately steal away their markets. The introduces reader to 1. Principles of Disruptive Technologies 2. Characteristics of Disruptive Technologies 2. Best Practices for (Product) Managers when faced with disruptive technologies The authors goes in depth in case studies of Disk Drive Industry, Excavator Industry, their Product Life Cycles. If you get the gist of it, you can skim the pages and make your eyes look for the meat inside the book. The last chapter on applying the principles to EV(Electronic Vehicles) Industry is fascinating. The final "Book Guide Chapter" Summarizes the concepts learnt in the book well. In pursuit to understand Product Discovery better along with this book I would recommend readers other books along with this book as a package namely Crossing the Chasm by Moore, Competitive Strategy by Michael Porter, Continuous Discovery Habits, Blue Ocean Strategy, 7 Powers by Hamilton Helmer.
