We are familiar with Monty Don's garden at Longmeadow and enjoy its different rooms every week on Gardeners' world. These have all been mapped out and lovingly created by him. They have been influenced largely by the culture set out by British gardeners using native plants and shrubs that thrive in this soil and climate. Now Monty is going to set off on a journey to find out how a very different culture and climate has influenced garden design in its own way. In this series Monty looks at what marks out a garden in the Islamic world and the influence this has had on gardens much closer to home. His journey starts in the historical and stunning Islamic gardens of Andalucía before heading east to the beating heart of Islam: Turkey, Iran and India. Monty discovers and learns about the four areas of Islamic civilisation; Andalucían, Moghul, Persian and Ottoman, by visiting gardens that represent and symbolise each. So it was good to have the DVD as a reminder and record of them along with all the explanations of their creation. The second programme on television I was disappointed with but on watching it twice more on DVD I realised that these gardens dad other influences. Those in Turkey were influenced by the west while those in India were modified by the British. I am glad that we were shown the Taj and its reflection in the river since I did not realise that the gardens were extended over the river. Finally, the programme came to Highgrove, England showing the garden ordered as an Islamic garden with the variation in planting that was needed for the english climate.

Very informative about Islamic Gardens.

So great to have Monty back.
This is a fantastic two-parter. The first part is stronger than the second part because a lot of the gardens in part two have been changed from their original design. Monty Don is the perfect knowledgeable host. Enjoy!

Enjoyable and very informative series
I bought the DVD after seeing the series on TV - well worth revisiting and will no doubt view it again in due course

Monty Don's garden programs are always,worth watching, he takes you on a personal journey through the Islamic World. Beautifully recorded visual feast, with the story of the Islamic tradition of gardens surrounded by desert.

ALL OF MONTY DON'S DVD'S ARE GREAT INCLUDING THIS ONE. I GET A LITTLE TIRED OF SEEING HIM INSTEAD OF THE WONDERFUL GARDENS BUT HE DOES KNOW HIS TRADE. I WOULD RECOMMEND ALL HIS DVD'S WHICH GIVES ONE A GLIMPSE OF TRULY INSPIRED GARDENS, EACH UNIQUE AND ALSO ALLOWS ONE TO TRAVEL THE WORLD THROUGH GARDENS, HOW WONDERFUL WOULD THAT BE.
