It's very effective in a dark room and the remote control allows you to change the colour, and the colour transition if you want. I note that the Q&As says that batteries are not required, which is true as it will run from a USB mains adapter, but the one I got does take batteries as well (3 x AAA) if you don't want a trailing cable. The 3D bit is only an illusion, albeit an effective one, and I think you will only be disappointed if you were expecting a 3D laser-generated hologram which I don't think you'll get at this price. Update Oct 2020 - after very little use, all the colours apart from red have stopped working. And of course there is no warranty.
