CRAFTSMAN 42" Gas Riding Lawn Mower with 17.5 HP* Briggs and Stratton Single-Cylinder Engine, Gas Lawn Tractor with 7-Speed Transmission, Red/Black (13AN77XSA93)

This is replacing the same model that is now about 30 years old and still running. I was just getting paranoid that it would break and I saw this one on sale so decided to buy it. On the old one, it needed a new battery every few years, I replaced the ignition solenoid, the carburetor, put tubes in the wheels, but other than that it still starts easy, runs smooth and cuts grass fine. I'll be able to sell that as a still functioning machine. This one is very nearly identical, with just deck lever, blade engage and transmission levers in different places. It comes in a well-constructed crate and I got home delivery which worked out well. All that needed to be assembled was the seat (one hand nut) and the steering wheel (a socket wrench with extension). It came with the oil already in it, so added gas and it started right up. I cut grass with it right away and it ran very nice, the cut was excellent, I am very happy with this machine and if it is anywhere near as durable as the last, I might be the last one I ever need.

My 5th riding mower ever. Arrived exactly on time at my door by NSD in a wood crate. No scratches, no dings. looked new. Easily assembled, was topped off with oil, After gassing and hooking battery up it started immediately. ran perfectly. Mows nicely, fast enough on flat ground. A 6 foot plus person might be more comfortable with a larger Mower, but I have No complaints whatsoever. Good bargain. This model type engine has no oil filter, so change oil more frequently and you'll be fine.

First time buying a lawnmower new and first time buying a riding mower. Same one they had at lowes for 100 dollars less and it was delivered to my door. Packaging was a flimsy crate that did it's job, it didn't arrive with any dents or scratches that I noticed. Assembly was easy put the seat and steering wheel on, connect the supplied battery under the seat, and add fuel (check the oil level, the dipstick is also the fill cap mine came perfectly topped off) it fired right up without choking and battery was charged. It was honestly so much easier than I thought it would be. Now for anecdotal examples, I'm 6'1" and 210 this machine is too small for me but my wife (who I bought this for is absolutely perfect she is 5'5") she is able to push the pedal all the way down just barely with the seat in the furthest back position. It has 7 speeds you can't select between them unless you push the brake/clutch in, it doesn't allow you to engage the blades while in reverse. It cuts 3 weeks of growth on setting 3 without much drama. I'll probably get it a different blade and order the bigger deck for it. Other than that it should run fine for a long time. It's not overbuilt but it's also not top of the line price either. 2000 for a simple ride on mower is pretty steep. Overall I'd say this is good for it intended purpose but prob won't do much else.

This mower is a piece of junk. WILL NOT WORK, will not start. I’ve replaced the battery, added gas, done all kinds of troubleshooting and it will not start and only cranks. New battery is getting the correct voltage but still will not start and it’s brand new off the truck. I did not get to even mow once with it. Now I have to deal with the return process and figure out how to get a new mower.

It works well and the assembly was fairly easy. I was just expecting that the delivery would be better and that the mower actually taken out of the wooden pallet it came with. I had to pry the mower out to get it out of the pallet. Just FYI of how people might receive it. Get a better delivery system.

My husband absolutely loves his riding mower, which he uses every week to maintain our lawn. The delivery was impressively fast, arriving just a few days after he placed the order. Assembly was straightforward and only took about 30 minutes, making it easy for him to get started right away. So far, his experience with the mower has been exceptional; it's not only powerful but also remarkably quiet. He appreciates how smoothly it operates, allowing him to finish mowing our large yard quickly and efficiently. Overall, we both agree that this purchase was 100% worth the investment.

Bought this lawnmower April 6, 2025. Delivered from Amazon. Had to pry wood pieces. When blades are engaged, it has always had a bad vibration. If it did not have this bad vibration, a nice lawnmower. Seemingly not lawnmower blades!! Thanks Tom Coley
