Simple writing style
I really enjoyed reading Amma Diary by Ravi Mantri. The thing I liked the most about this book is the writing style. The author writes in a very simple and emotional way, which makes the story easy to read and connect with. The book beautifully shows feelings and experiences that many readers can relate to. It feels personal, almost like reading someone’s real diary, which makes the story more meaningful. There wasn’t anything in the book that I strongly disliked. Overall, it was an enjoyable and heartfelt read. I would recommend this book to everyone who likes simple, emotional stories and meaningful reflections.

Heartbreakingly beautiful ❤️
I don't know whether I'm overreacting or oversensitive, but I felt such books should come with a trigger warning. I loved it so so much. I can't recall I was so fascinated with a lovestory. I finished this book and just sat there for a while, honestly. I didn’t know what to feel. It’s a very short read but emotionally it feels heavy. I kept stopping in between because there was so much going on inside my head. So, Amma’s Diary is a love story. It's a heartbreakingly beautiful love story, if I have to describe it. I discovered it randomly while browsing through Amazon to add the next Indian writer to my TBR, and this one popped up. Destiny, I guess. One line from the book that stayed with me is, “The greatest tragedies in life don’t have villains. It’s destiny.” The plot revolves around Sarika, a middle-aged woman who works as a principal of a well-known private school. She lives with her son, Jittu. One day, she notices that new tenants have moved into the neighborhood. One of them is a girl called Gita, who has completed her MBBS and is preparing for post-graduation. Gita bonds with Sarika in no time, and with her, Gita feels incredibly close, as if she is rediscovering her life again. The book then takes us on a journey tracing back to the mid-eighties, giving us an account of Sarika’s life. The story is written from different POVs, tracing multiple eras through their experiences and lives. The story feels very close to real life. The characters don’t seem fictional, they feel like people we actually know or might meet someday. There’s love, heartbreak, memories, loss, and those small moments that quietly change everything. I had never realized that a story could be this painful until I read the last page and closed the book. It has every element to be considered one of the greatest tragic stories I’ve come across in recent times — nostalgia, love, heartbreak, grief, loss, separation, and second chances. But every tear is worth it. It’s not that there is something extraordinary about the story or the plot. It feels like our everyday life written through a different POV, viewed from another glass. There is so much heart and simplicity in the way the author plots it, and he ties all the emotions so well that it strikes the right chord and becomes a tangled mess of multiple feelings until the very last page. Destiny is the biggest player, I tell you.

Beautiful Book!!
I ended up finishing it in a single day. It’s such a beautifully written and emotional story. There were so many moments where my eyes welled up, and I had to pause just to take it all in. The way love and relationships are portrayed feels so real, so pure, and deeply touching. This book leaves you with a soft, lingering feeling—and a quiet wish that everyone gets to experience a love like this in their life. If you enjoy stories that stay with you long after you finish, this is a must-read.
